Originally from West Jefferson, Ohio, Chris Daugherty attended Madison Plains High School, followed by two years of college at Kentucky Christian College. Daughtery aspires to be a teacher and is most proud to have been able to entertain a class of 4th graders on Career Day.

Daugherty currently works for the Ohio Department of Transportation building roads. He previously worked for his father's drainage company as a heavy equipment operator and has also worked in a sporting goods store. His hobbies include going to NASCAR races, four-wheeling in his jeep and playing basketball. He describes himself as spontaneous, funny and creative. He loves children and tends to gravitate toward the underdog. He believes his ability to think quickly on his feet, willingness to help others and strong physical and mental condition will help him become the Sole Survivor.

Daugherty currently resides in South Vienna, Ohio, with his fiancée, Lorie, and his pet lizard. His birth date is August 29, 1970.

'Survivor: Vanuatu' has local star

Rodger Bingham was close, living just over the border in Crittenden, Ky. He took fifth place in Survivor: The Australian Outback.

Lillian Morris was closer, living just down the Interstate, in Deerfield Twp. Her early "death" and later "resurrection" caused some controversy as she battled to second place on Survivor: The Pearl Islands.

Chris Daugherty is closest, a West Jefferson native who now lives in South Vienna, just east of Springfield on U.S. 68. Daugherty is our latest local connection, fresh off his Survivor: Vanuatu experience and back, presumably, working on highways for the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Daugherty, 33, is just the second Ohio resident to compete on Survivor, now in its ninth incarnation. The reality television show strands people in an exotic locale, where they battle it out in contrived challenges until one winner is awarded $1 million. The latest Survivor premieres at 8 p.m. on Sept. 16 on CBS, during which 18 (up from the usual 16) contestants arrive in Vanuatu, a group of 83 islands in the South West Pacific, northeast of New Caledonia and northwest of Fiji. The island nation is on the Pacific "ring of fire", and rumors have already started about the Survivor team's volcanic experience.

Little is known about this Survivor season, but the men vs. women tactic that worked so nicely on Survivor: Amazon is apparently being tried again.

The CBS Web site says Daugherty lives with a woman named Lorie and an unnamed lizard, that he loves NASCAR, children and the smell of fresh-cut grass.

Joining him in Vanuatu will be a drill sergeant from South Carolina; a teacher and amputee from Oakland, Calif.; a sheep farmer from Pennsylvania; and a former stripper from Lakewood, Colo.

I think Chris is doing great in the Game. He does not appear so much as a threat, but he is the "brain" of the Alinta men. Let's see if he can work his magic to divide the women and give him and Chad at least one more day in the game.
