Jeff Probst Quitting "Survivor"?

by Josh Grossberg, EOnline
Oct 6, 2005, 10:40 AM PT

Is Jeff Probst ready to leave the rugged life behind?

After six years in the jungle, the khaki-clad host of CBS' Survivor may be planning to grab a torch and leave the seminal reality game show when Survivor concludes its 11th season this year.

Inside TV reports that the 43-year-old Probst is going to quit once his contract is up at the end of the current installment, Survivor: Guatemala, which the Eye network debuted on Sept. 15.

He cited the constant traveling that comes with his emcee duties and his desire to settle down with his girlfriend, former contestant Julie Berry, whom he began dating last year after her edition wrapped as reasons for his possible departure .

Probst hinted as much in a conference call last month to hype the premiere of Survivor: Gautemala, telling reporters he was "definitely in love. More in love that I was six months ago."

"I get it now...Love is the E-ticket ride at Disneyland," the tanned one said before adding that he was tired of the road. "I want to start a family."

A CBS rep was unavailable to confirm the report.

Meanwhile, Survivor: Guatemala forges ahead tonight minus three players who have since been voted out of dueling tribes Yaxha and Nakum--fire department retiree Jim Lynch, magician's assistant Morgan McDevitt, and retail salesgirl Brianna Varela last week.

Hoping to shake things up a bit, series mastermind Mark Burnett and Probst offered up a new plot twist in the first episode by bringing back Survivor: Palau members Bobby Jon Drinkard and Stephenie LaGrossa to compete for the $1 million jackpot again.

One former contestant who won't be appearing on Survivor anytime soon however is original champ Richard Hatch, who has indicted on tax evasion charges, including failing to report to the IRS his $1 million grand prize.

Said Probst about the butt-bearing reality star: "Hatch is a very charming guy, and I enjoy talking to him. But I seriously think Hatch is delusional. The guy thinks he can beat the IRS. He's out of his mind. Fifty-seven-million people saw Hatch win a million dollars. To not declare it on your tax return is challenging the IRS. Who does that?"

Hatch has pleaded innocent in the case. If convicted, he could face up to 73 years in prison and a $1.35 million fine.

Say it isn't so...  Cry
I couldn't watch Survivor without Jeff Probst hosting, it wouldn't be the same. I thought his contract expired after season number 12, can (or will) CBS let him go before that?.

I hope he reconsiders.  I can't even imagine someone different stepping in.    Sad
Except maybe Mark Burnett.   LOL!

Let's give him a break on this issue.
He deserves the life he wants.
We'll miss him, but who even knows if the show will still be on?
We wish him the most loving, happy life possible for anyone.

Survivor would definitely not be the same without Jeff as its host. Still, he yearns for a life he wants to live, so we should respect his decision should he really leave.

Good for Jeff. People should give up their job for love. He must have a ton of cash anyway.

Maybe they will be bring in former contestants to host the show each season.  Wink

Rob C pretty much killed any chance he had by doing Kill Reality and The Scorned. Apparently, Andrew Savage (Pear Islands) auditioned this week?, so it looks like CBS wants a former survivor to replace Probst.

I won't hate you ... but this speculation is probably the most humourous one I've ever heard! :laff: :laff: :laff: :laff:

I read an article a few weeks ago that said that his contrat was up after the 12th Season of Survivor, and that Probst said he wasn't sure he wanted to give it up, because the show treats him so good.
I hope he doesn't leave the show, it will be different without him hosting the show.  I do think having a past Survivor Castaway is a great idea for a replacement, if the show keeps going is Probst quits.
I do not remember where I read the article at.

Oh, JP...that was baaaaaaad.  Very bad.  wink

I just can't imagine the show without Jeff.  As for Andrew or Rob, neither of them fit the bill for me.  Actually, I wouldn't want to see ANY of the former players do it.  I'd rather it be a complete unknown as Jeff was when he began.  But that's just me.
