I got this article from a local newspaper and i find it pretty interesting so i decided to share it with you guys! i can't scan the papers cos it's one entire page so i am typing it all out for you guys. Survivor World Into its 17th season, reality programme Survivor has travelled to some of the most exotic, most dangerous and most far-flung parts of the world. The Inaugural Island - Survivor: Borneo (2000) Where: Pulau Tiga, a group of islands off Sabah, Borneo Until the first season of Survivor was filmed here in 2000, this island that was formed by a volcanic eruption in 1897 was virtually unknown, even to Singaporeans living practically next door. Today, the island is cashing in on the tourism dollar and marketed as The Survivor Island by resorts there. Most Dangerous Locale - Survivor: The Australian Outback (2000) Where: Northern Queensland, Australia The outback is home to eight out of 10 of the world's most poisonous snakes such as the Taipan snake. Other neighbours the contestants had in the harsh desert were deadly spiders and freshwater crocodiles that can grow to 3m. Most Often Seen in Movies - Survivor: Africa (2001) Where: Kenya The country that was the backdrop for films such as Out of Africa (1985), Born Free (1966) and To Walk with the Lions (2001) caught the attention of Survivor producers, who cleared about 20 sq km of land in Kenya's Shaba National Reserve to film this Survivor season. The Place Jeff Probst will Never Set Foot on Again - Survivor: Marquesas (2002) Where: Nuku Hiva, Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia Probst has vowed never to return to the largest island in the cluster of Marquesas islands in the Pacific Ocean. Why? Because of the incessant sandfly bites. He told Entertainment Weekly magazine: "I will never go back to Marquesas - ever. The No-No sandflies were eating people alive." Wettest Season - Survivor: Thailand (2002) Where: Ko Tarutao, in the Andaman Sea off coast of southern Thailand Tarutao National Park, made up of Ko Tarutao, Ko Udang and Ko Rawi, is closed from May to November every year due to heavy rains. The island's average annual rainfall is about 2,500mm, compared to other Survivor locations like the Australian Outback, which has an average annual rainfall of 400mm. The Legendary One - Survivor: Amazon (2003) Where: Rio Negro in the Amazon in Brazil The Amazon rainforest was home to the castaways, who had to deal with monkeys and poisonous spiders in The Forest of Life (A Floresta da Vida), a privately owned reserve. Hot Favourite - Survivor: Pearl Islands (2003), Survivor: All-Stars (2004) and Survivor: Panama - Exile Island (2006) Where: Pearl Islands, Panama For three seasons, Survivor returned to the Pearl Islands off the coast of Panama, where the exiled Shah of Iran once lived. Maybe the producers were trying to maximise their budgets with back-to-back filming of Survivor: Pearl Islands and Survivor: All-Stars. Location Visited by Most Number of Models and Actors - Survivor: Vanuatu (2004) and Survivor: Fiji (2007) Where: The former was filmed in Shefa Province in Vanuatu, and the latter was filmed on the island of Fiji. In Survivor: Fiji, 18 out of the 19 contestants were models and actors - or "mactors" - recruited for the show. Probst told MSNBC in an interview: "Everyone except one person on Survivor: Fiji was recruited, and while theat may give us unmemorable "mactors", recruiting has also given us unlikely but popular contestants such as Yau-Man Chan." The Best Diving Spot - Survivor Palau (2005) and Survivor: Micronesia (2008 ) Where: Palau, an island nation in Micronesia, located in the Philippine Sea Palau is a favourite among serious divers because of its unspoiled reefs and caves the Survivor producers know it. In Survivor: Palau, challenges and rewards revolved around snorkelling and diving trips. Oldest Known Civilisation - Survivor: Guatemala - The Mayan Empire (2005) Where: Yaxha National Park in northern Guatemala The history of the Mayan Empire dates back to the first millennium BC. Survivors attempted to outwit, outplay and outlast each other in the national park that is a Mesoamerican archaeological site and a former ceremonial centre for the Mayans. The One that Honeymooners Will Love - Survivor: Cook Islands (2006) Where: Cook Islands, in the South Pacific Ocean The clear blue waters of the Aitutaki lagoon and the privacy of resorts like Aitutaki Lagoon Resort, the only private island resort there, make this a sure-win for newlyweds. The One Most Resembling a Picture-Perfect Postcard - Survivor: China (2007) Where: Jiangxi, China Filiming took place at the Zhelin reservoir in the south-easter province of China, with sacred Lu Mountains and the calm waters of the reservoir as the breathtaking backdrop. Upcoming Tourist Spot - Survivor: Gabon - earth's last eden (2008 ) Where: Gabon, Central Africa Gabon is one of the few places that has welcomed the Survivor casts and crew with open arms, according to host Jeff Probst. The government, in hopes that the series will help promote tourism in Gabon, even built 100km of roads and 11 bridges to make it easier for the production crew. Possible Survivor Locations 1) Survivor: Mongolia - The Genghis Challenge 2) Survivor: Galapagos Islands - Darwin Rules 3) Survivor: Antarctica - Penguin Suits Optional
