The Nike Air Max 98 is a Nike running shoe that originally released in 1998. Nike is bringing back this shoe in full force in 2018, most recently with the highly anticipated “Summer Sea” version. The Air Max 98 features the same Air unit as the Air Max 97, but with a completely re-designed upper. While it was Adidas Gazelle Womens not as popular. Nike Air Max is a line of shoes first released by Nike, Inc. in 1987. The shoe was originally designed by Tinker Hatfield, who started out working for Nike as an architect designing shops; he also designed many of the Air Jordan models. The Nike air technology was created and patented by employee M. Frank Rudy. Back in the mid ’90s, Nike Air Max cushioning was in the midst of a rapid evolution. Sneaker designs were progressing quickly, with the Air Max 95 and Air Max 97 becoming the industry’s aspiration for footwear perfection. The Air Max 98 has always played somewhat of a second fiddle to its predecessors, however. The younger sibling to the Air Max 97, the AM98 was built on the same Nike Air-Sole, but lacked the smooth, undulating lines of the 97. There were still some wavy lines, but there were also stripes Nike Air Zoom Structure 21 Mujer and patches that chopped up the shoe into different sections. The 98 just didn’t flow as well as the 97. Regardless, it’s worth noting that the AM98 released in plenty of eye-catching colorways, many of which will be returning in 2018. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights from 1998. Designed by Sergio Lozano, the same man responsible for Adidas Stan Smith Womens the Air Max 95, the AM98 was touted as the best Nike running shoe available. An anatomically designed, dual-pressure, full-length Air-Sole unit with a lateral crash pad system cushioned and guided the foot through each step, while a full-length air bag absorbed the punishment. Featuring synthetic leather and a mesh upper, there was an overlay strapping system for fit and support, a sculpted polyurethane midsole, and a BRS 1000 Nike Regrind outsole. If the Air-Sole unit looks similar Nike Air Huarache Dam to that of the AM97, that’s because it is. The tooling of the Air Max 97 was carried over and used for the 98. Though Air Max running shoes are rarely taken seriously by hard-core runners, the AM98 was definitely comfortable. One of the main issues was the lack of arch support in the shoe – it wasn’t designed with the overpronator in mind. Few runners Adidas ZX Flux Mujer Negars were training for marathons in them, but they were perfectly fine for shorter runs. In 1998, Nike was riding high off the massive success of its Air Max 97 and Air Jordan 12 sneakers. The former became an overnight favorite amongst 1.0 sneakerheads; the latter MJ wore in 1997 while winning his fifth NBA title (including that game he played while trying not to ralph all over Scottie Pippen's jersey). But then came the Air Max 98. In the face of high expectations for the next edition Adidas NMD Dam of the shoe, Nike...kind of put up a brick. The 98s weren't outright hated, but were criticized for looking too similar to the 97, despite their fresh new colorways. As a result, the 98s became one of Nike's few "forgotten" Air Max sneakers. That all changed when a skate brand from New York took a crack at the silhouette. In 2016, Supreme Adidas NMD Womens injected the 98s with rocket-powered hype, doing the shoes up with colors that drew from Prada Sport kicks of old. And now, twenty years after they first hit shelves, Nike is bringing back the Air Max 98s in their original colorway, known among collectors as the "Gundam" for their resemblance to the anime character. And considering the folks buying hyped-up Nikes today are the ones who were watching Gundam back in the day, the Air Max 98s are poised to become one of the most coveted sneakers of the year. It's long overdue.
