It's the first official weekend of the summer, and brands are coming in full force with an amazing array of dope sneakers. Plenty of special projects are dropping, including collaborations with Mizuno, Nike, and Kendrick Lamar. Nike is celebrating diversity and representation with its Pride pack and its N7 program. (N7 benefits children of Native and Aboriginal North Americans.) There are also general release models from Adidas that are already flying off the shelves, and some more picks from Nike that you don't want to miss.
One of the most anticipated Adidas Gazelle Feminino general release models of the year, Adidas's Yung-1, finally Vans Old Skool Womens drops this week. Retro styling meets contemporary technology for a pitch-perfect mashup. The shoes have sold out already through Adidas' own e-commerce site, but watch for them to show up at retailers all weekend. Grab them if you get the opportunity; these are a new fan favorite.
If you're looking for a vintage-feeling sneaker at a super affordable price, Adidas' Continental 80 may be the one for you. The shoe originally dropped in 1980, and the brand has kept the sneaker basically untouched for this new release, with solid leather colors that feature striped hits of black and red. Don't confuse them with the Yeezy Powerphase, though. They may have a similar aesthetic, but they are truly individual shoes.
Nike's N7 program celebrates the heritage and principles of Nike Air Presto Dames Native and Aboriginal communities in North America. Nike draws Asics Gel Lyte 5 Womens inspiration for footwear from it, as well as passes the proceeds onto the N7 Fund, which supports programing for Native and Aboriginal youth. This Air Force 1 features a cloud white nubuck upper with basket weave debossment, which is under a black nubuck swoosh with conspicuous contrast stitching.
Inspired by expanses of sky and water, the N7 Air Max 1 features a canvas upper that fades from blue to white and back again. Darker blues appear on the swoosh and in the Air Max bubble, while the rest of the sneaker is covered in white leather that matches the white midsole. The N7 Fund is inspired by the Great Law of the Iroquois, which demands considering if our actions will benefit the children seven generations from now. The Air Max 1s are sized for women, so if you grab Adidas NMD Femme these, be sure to add 1.5 to your regular men's size.
When Kendrick Nike Cortez Damen Lamar jumped over to Nike from Reebok, it was the sneaker coup of the year. And this weekend, we see the latest project from the pairing. Kendrick chose to work exclusively on the Cortez, a popular sneaker from his hometown of Compton, done up in its third "Kenny" incarnation in black and white. The sneakers feature embroidered black Chinese lettering at the toe and hits of red all over the shoe, but they also come with a style tip. Inside the sneaker, they've printed the directions on how to wear the shoes: "With shorts and tall socks." Good advice.
There's still another week of Pride Month, and this weekend is the climax for many celebrants. NYC Pride Celebration which is where Pride started, after all. Nike Asics Gel Lyte 5 Femme drops the final BeTrue sneaker in the collection to mark Nike Air Huarache Womens the event: Air Max 270s. The rainbow pops out on the 270-degree air bubble at the heel, but the real fun comes from a lavender upper. We never get to see sneakers in that color! Hits of pink all over the shoe complete the look.
