Four "Idol" hopefuls were eliminated on last night's results show.

The "American Idol" Final 24 was whittled down to a Final 20 on Thursday night's results show when RUDY CARDENAS, PAUL KIM, AMY KREBS and NICOLE TRANQUILLO received the bad news that they hadn't received enough votes to continue the journey.

Approximately 32 million votes were tallied between the Tuesday night performances by the guys and the Wednesday night performances by the gals.

Kim, who performed barefoot, blames song choice for his early "Idol" exit: "I had a list of songs and my top five didn't clear, so I had to go with number six, which I wasn't very comfortable with. You could tell by my performance that I wasn't really feeling the song."

Cardenas, from North Hollywood, CA, sang "Free Ride," while Kim, of Saratoga, CA, sang "Careless Whisper." Krebs, who currently lives in Federal Way, WA, entertained the audience with "I Can't Make You Love Me," and Tranquillo, from Philadelphia, PA, sang "Stay."

"I guess I have been getting heat for picking that song," Cardenas told reporters. "I wanted to sing a fun song that people would enjoy. I knew I was going first. I wanted to grab the attention of the American public. I knew it showed my range. It is difficult going first."

Next week, the Final 20 competes, with the guys again singing on Tuesday and the ladies on Wednesday, and the results show on Thursday. Four more hopefuls -- two guys and two gals -- will be eliminated to make the Final 16.

In other "Idol" news, it was announced that both JENNIFER LOPEZ, GWEN STEFANI, TONY BENNETT, BON JOVI, BARRY GIBB, LULU, MARTINA McBRIDE, PETER NOONE and DIANA ROSS will be performing on the show later this season. Former "American Idol" competitor KELLIE PICKLER will return to the "Idol" stage next week to perform her new single, "I Wonder." And fourth season "Idol" winner CARRIE UNDERWOOD will also perform later this season.

On Thursday's results show, FANTASIA performed "I'm Here" from the musical The Color Purple, in which she will be starring on Broadway.

My thoughts...

Nicole should NOT have been cut. It's unfortunate Amy was cut, but it's justified. Alaina or Antonella should've gone over Nicole.

For the guys. Rudy and Paul, neither were the worst. Sundance and Sanjaya were both the worst. Sanjaya should've definitely gone.

I TOTALLY agree with you that neither Rudy nor Paul should have gone home. I believe that Paul has more to show! He does have one of the better vocals and he just picked the wrong song. I was really shocked to see him go, I feel that he deserves another chance. Yes, I agree that Sanjaya should have gone home.

I like Rudy's song, but he comes off as a bit cocky for me. I'm not surprised Paul went, he was boring. Sad

For the girls, i really thinK Amy has a nice voice and Nicole has potential! The 2 who stayed on due to their looks better buck up next week!

I didn't think Sanjaya's performance was the worst, but it definitely wasn't the best. His voice was spot-on, but he came across as timid and lacking energy/conviction.  However, his backstory has made him adored by many, so you had to know they were going to vote to keep him in.
