After the running of Sunday's Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis Tony Stewart punched a newspaper photographer.  NASCAR has fined him $10,000 and placed him on probation until the end of the year.  This is the third time in the last 17 months he has been fined or placed on probation because of his uncontrolled temper.  Mike Healton, NASCAR president issued the following statement this afternoon:

"It is imperative that we protect the integrity of our sport.  This type of behavior cannot be tolerated and is in no way indicative of the manner in which our drivers, teams, tracks, and sponsors interact with the media.  We take pride in our accessability, and interaction with the media and we intend to protect that relationship."

Stewart is an Indiana native, but he certainly isn't the most popular driver in the state.  This is getting old and most hoosiers are fed up with his antics.

Good for NASCAR.  What about anger management course(s)?  I presume he will also be sued by the person he hit.    Otherwise $10,000 seems like a pittance sometimes.  The one year probation though it likely what will have the most impact in any event.

I like Tony and think he is a great driver.  I really hope the help that he's going to seek, will be good for him.  It would be a shame not have him in the sport.
