Jesica Santillian - should her family sue?

Jesica is the 17-year old heart/lung transplant patient who received the organs that were incompatible to her system.  Yesterday the doctors removed the organs to transplant ones acceptable to her young body.  They began "working" immediately and she's off all machines.

However, this morning it's reported that there is swelling in her brain - an expected side-affect.  How sad is this?

My question is - compare this case to the hysterectomy patients who are suing their surgeon for "marking" their uterus during surgery.  Who would you sue?

Oh dear....now I'm pathetically replying to a thread I started..... Roll Eyes

It seems the end is near for Jesica.  Reports from the latest tests indicate she is brain dead.  The doctors (or so it's reported) have spoken with the family about turning off the machines.

Family members are more than a little disenchanted with the hospital and staff.  They said if Jesica dies - everyone at Duke Univ Hospital are murderers.

I can only begin to understand their pain.  That poor family.

I don't know the whole story, but from what I've read, I'd have to agree. There should be NO medical bills for this girl.

Did they bring this child in from Mexico to get "good" medical care for her? I read somewhere not too long ago that health care in the USA is five times more expensive than anywhere else, but number 30 - THIRTY - in overall quality. That's scary.

Yes, coggy - this young girl was brought to the US by her family (I think) specifically for medical care.

Holy crapola!  The US ranks 30th in quality care?  That's really frightening and sickening.
