Supreme Court of Canada has said that a brilliant physicist who is incarcerated for psychiatric illness is entitled to refuse medications for his bipolar illness.  
 
His mother is devastated by the ruling.  It addresses an issue of whether the Board can act in what the hospital believes to be the best interests of the patient when the patient has the capacity to make his own decisions.  The Court said that the Board can only rule on "capacity" to make a decision and not on "bestinterests".
