NEW YORK - Mike Tyson was arrested early Saturday after a brawl with two men outside a Brooklyn hotel and was charged with assault and disorderly conduct.

The former heavyweight champion was treated for minor cuts to his hands after the two men apparently retrieved an object from the hotel lobby and used it against him, police said. Police added they had no further information on the object.

The brawl broke out about 5:30 a.m. outside the hotel where Tyson was staying, police said. They did not immediately have information on what started the fight.

The Brooklyn district attorney's office said Tyson was expected to be arraigned late Saturday or early Sunday.

A call to Shelly Finkel, adviser to the 36-year-old Brooklyn-born boxer, was not immediately returned.

The two other men in the brawl also were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. Police identified one as Nestor Alvarez, 24, but they did not identify the other.

One of the two men and a woman who was with them were taken to Bellevue Hospital and treated for minor injuries, police said. Tyson was not taken to the hospital.

Tyson, with a long history of legal trouble, was convicted of rape in 1992 and was sentenced to six years in prison. He served three years before being released on parole.

In a Fox television interview last month, Tyson said he was so angry about the conviction he wanted to rape his accuser, former beauty pageant contestant Desiree Washington, and her mother.

In 1997, he bit off a piece of Evander Holyfield's ear during a bout. Tyson's Nevada boxing license was suspended for a year, and he was fined $3 million. In 1999, he was released from a Maryland jail after serving 3 1/2 months for assaulting the two motorists.

Last year, he threw a punch at Lennox Lewis' bodyguard at a news conference announcing a fight between the two, setting off a brawl between Tyson and Lewis.

Mr. Tyson (Mr used in light) seems more animal than man its a shame he is even walking among free men! This and his comments to FOX show this man has no morales to go with his NO BRAINS! He is no only a disgrace to Boxing but a disgrace to Mankind!!! Mike Tyson bleongs in a CELL for LIFE not because he has murdered but because he is a danger to all free men and women as long as he walks among normal human beings! and thats my two cents!

Your secrets safe with me lol but I'm not even sure Boxing should even be a SPORT. I know they train very hard and there is skill involved but bottom line is still two guys trying to best the $@&% out of each other and I cant see that being a Sport! Your Pete Rose comment was RIGHT ON!! Wish I had thought of it lol

I remember in the 80's when his wife Robin Givens came "out" and told everyone he was beating her. She was called a liar and all kinds of names and pretty much blackballed from the industry. It's funny how far we have come in the last couple decades. If she had come out with that now, it would have been very different.

Along the same lines, I was reading recently about Sinead O'Conor and her Saturday Night Live performance that got her blackballed. Now I remembered that she tore up a picture of the pope, but I didn't remember what she said, other than it pissed a lot of people off and her career was basically over afterward. What she had said was for people to fight the pope because priests were molesting litle children and getting away with it and that he helped cover it up with catholic church money...

Rhune, I brought up the Robin Given's/Tyson interview to a friend recently and her response was still that as much as she couldn't stand Tyson, Given's was just after his money and wasn't really abused by him. Undecided

Tyson will end up back in prison eventually. He seems to be spiraling down again. He seems ready to blow big. God help the person in his way when he does.

Cjr - something's just so so wrong with this picture, isn't it. I always thought the laws were put in place to protect the innocent. Instead, the law seems to protect such perverts as Charles Manson, Tyson and the O.J.'s of the world.

I have NO DOUBT Givens was looking for both fame and money when she married Tyson but I also 100% believe her she suffered abuse at his hands. I was one of those who did believe she was abused not because I liked her but because there has always been something about Tyson that I didnt like that I didnt know at the time now I do HE'S NOT MAN HE'S AN ANIMAL!
