I haven't had a problem with junk email for over 5 years now. I set up a hotmail account that I use when a website wants me to register and I don't want to receive any notifications or emails from them. I only use my real email address when I'm purchasing something online or when I sincerely want to get updates about something. Everyday, I check my hotmail account and delete all the messages (usually between 20 and 50). At my real email addresses, I receive about 1 or 2 junk messages a month.

I'm afraid I receive close to 100-200 junk mails a day, depending on the day. Of course I'm also popping 9 accounts, all of them work related as well. I don't have the convenience of not giving out my e-mail addresses, they are posted all over the web on the various sites I support and do work on. So, companies with particular programs use them to search websites like this one for addresses listed for contact, and then add me to their list, which they in turn sell for profit to other marketing agencies. It's a real hassle sometimes. I go on vacation for a week and come back to roughly 1000 messages of junk mixed in with all my other actual valid e-mail.

I know the feeling Rhune..though mine has gotten better in the past year or so. My biggest beef is mom's. She must get 400 junk mails a day. It is her own fault cause she was bored when she first discovered the fun of the internet and joined a ton of joke stuff and such. Everyone one of them sold her name a million times. My biggest complaint is that they sold it to a lot of porno stuff. It is just not cool to have your mom getting emails about what you can do with your dog. Hell that is just disgusting anyway...but I have tried to get rid of the porn and they ignore your unsub attempts. I hate to change her addy cause this one is so perfect for her so luckily she has learned well the use of the delete key. But meanwhile, since she is not online every day..her mail gets backed up and with dial up, it takes forever to download some days. 2 weekends ago I came home to her not touching it for a week and she had 2300 emails waiting. It took me 90 minutes to download them. Ugggggghhhh

I do the same thing as Dameon. My hotmail account is only used for the junk. That way I can sign up for what I want. Respond to an initial email if necessary and delete everything else. I clear it two or 3 times a week and don't have to worry about deleting something necessary.

I learned long ago the unsub only lets someone know its a valid email account and you end up getting even more emails.

I am so happy this Do Not Call list is finally here. Cool

That's correct. Never bother to use the unsubsribe on those e-mails. For many, it's only used as a means of verifying they have a valid e-mail address that gets to a person, so they can sell it to a marketing list.
