Abducted Florida siblings found unharmed Mother, father in police custody Monday, June 30, 2003 Posted: 9:17 PM EDT (0117 GMT) BONIFAY, Florida (CNN) -- Two young children who were abducted in the middle of the night, allegedly by their mother, have been found alive, are in good health and are in police custody, authorities said Monday evening. Their mother, who police said suffered from a mental disorder, and the children's father are also in custody. Police said Monday that the mother and a man drove a car through a sliding glass door of the children's grandmother's home in the Miami, Florida, suburb of Miramar and abducted the little boy and girl. Police identified the mother as Nora Montano. A U.S. Army spokesman said Montano, a private 1st class, failed to show up for formation Monday at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. A nationwide Amber Alert was issued for the two children, 4-year-old Lorena and her 2-year-old brother, Moises. Police said Montano has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The children's maternal grandmother has had legal custody of the two since January, police said. The car smashed into the rear of the home about 2:50 a.m., then backed out, police said. The children's mother and a man dressed in camouflage with a dark mask over his face rushed upstairs and grabbed the children out of bed, they said. Police said the man shoved the children's aunt out of the way during the incident. No one was hurt. Army spokesman Phil Reidinger said Montano is attached to Charlie Company, 187th Battalion, 32nd Medical Battalion at the Army Medical Department Center and School. She recently failed a course to become a medical supply specialist, he said. Reidinger told CNN that Montano was a no-show at roll call at 5:15 a.m. [6:15 a.m. EDT]. "If she doesn't show up by 5:15 Tuesday morning, she could be designated as [absent without leave]" unless her superiors come up with information to take other steps, he said. Reidinger said Montano had served in the Army before, left, and then re-enlisted. He said she is on interim status, awaiting re-assignment.
