Diaz Sues Photographer Over Raunchy Photos
Mon, Jul 14, 2003, 08:07 AM PT

Cameron Diaz is launching an extortion case against a photographer who took topless photos of her when she was a struggling model.

According to Britain's Daily Star, John Rutter reportedly informed the star that the pictures and a video will go public unless she buys them. The "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" star consequently informed police, who seized the raunchy material during a raid on Rutter's Los Angeles home. She's now allegedly ordered her lawyers to make an extortion case against Rutter.

Rutter, 40, says, "The cops came in and tore up my place. They took all my work. They were here for five hours. They haven't arrested or charged me with anything. I don't know what is going on. I own the copyright on the pictures. My lawyer offered her a chance to buy the pictures as I thought it was the right thing to do since so many other people wanted to buy them."

Rutter claims a representative of the actress offered to pay him $3.2 million for the pictures and videos hours before the police raided his home.

Can we say "invasion of privacy" boys and girls?  If he owns the copyrights and took them with her consent, they have no right to seize them or prosecute him.  This another prime example of celebrities being able to do just about anything they please, whether it's legal or not.

That photographer is a piece of work too.

Dayum!  These people trying for celebrity on up the road need to learn to keep their clothes on in the process.  I LMAO many years ago when films and photos were shown of Sty Stallone dancing around and posing nude.

I have to agree with DA, from what I am reading here, it seems like she is crossing a line.  He does own the copyright to these photos and the right to publish and/or sell them to whoever he likes.  If I was Diaz, I'd just have bought the photos from him, after arguing over the price.  Maybe he approached her ni a stupid manner that allowed him to be arrested?

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Cameron Diaz is seeking an injunction barring the release of photographs taken at a private modeling session over a decade ago, before she was a star.

In the lawsuit, the 30-year-old "Charlie's Angels" star claims she didn't sign a photo release and that a release produced by the photographer is a forgery, her publicist, Brad Cafarelli, said Tuesday. He wouldn't describe the nature of the pictures.

Photographer John Rutter told the syndicated news program "Inside Edition" he had contacted Diaz's lawyers to offer them the photos before he sold them to any media outlets.

"This was a negotiation for a right of first refusal with Cameron Diaz's lawyers," Rutter said in a statement to "Inside Edition." "A few hours after her lawyers offered to buy the photos my place was raided."

A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney's office confirmed Tuesday that investigators searched Rutter's Venice apartment as part of a continuing investigation.

"Our office executed search warrants on June 30 involving an incident where Cameron Diaz is the alleged victim," said spokeswoman Jane Robison.

She declined to provide further details. No charges have been filed against Rutter. He couldn't be reached by The Associated Press for comment Tuesday.

There were few details available as to the contents of the photographs, but Rutter described them as "beautiful," "Inside Edition" reported. Rutter said he took the photographs well before Diaz's big break in the 1994 film "The Mask."
