There's a big ole tear rolling down my face today.  When I was a kid, I had such a crush on CB.  My mother couldn't understand that because he wasn't your typical Hollywood pretty boy.

LOS ANGELES — Charles Bronson (search), the Pennsylvania coal miner who drifted into films as a villain and became a hard-faced action star, notably in the popular "Death Wish" vengeance movies, has died. He was 81.

Bronson died Saturday of pneumonia at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (search) with his wife at his bedside, publicist Lori Jonas said. He had been in the hospital for weeks, Jonas said.

During the height of his career, Bronson was hugely popular in Europe; the French knew him as "le sacre monstre" (the sacred monster), the Italians as "Il Brutto" (the ugly man). In 1971, he was presented a Golden Globe as "the most popular actor in the world."

No, he was not a pretty boy, just something about that voice and animal mystique!

OK, here's my story about Bronson.  I was in the Boston Airport waiting for time to board the plane.  The Dallas Cowboy game was on (it was October, 1986) and the room was full of people, so I started to a chair to watch the game.  This man was heading for the same chair.  He looked a bit rugged so I waited and let him have the chair and I sat next to him on a table and started watched the game until time to board my flight to DFW.

After sitting there for several minutes, I turned to him and said, " Did anyone ever tell you that you look just like Charles Bronson"?  He replied, "All of my life".  I then said, "You are Bronson, aren't you" and he replied, "Yes, I am". in that deep booming powerful voice.    I said, "OK, we'll just sit here and enjoy watching this game and I won't ask for an autograph and do anything to draw attention to you.  He smiled and thanked me.  However, I did tell him my family and I enjoy his movies.
I did tell him I couldn't wait to get home and tell my husband and son, for they would never believe me and be mad as heck they weren't there!
This was the time he and his wife were on their way to L.A. for her award and about her book.  She died the next year with breast cancer.  No, she did not have a chair. She was standing across the room.  Maybe she didn't care for football or maybe she did not have the strength to walk that far.  I've always thought that strange, but hey, who am I Huh?

WE'll miss him  Cry Cry Cry
