Woman better after crash with drummer
Victim of Whitehall accident upgraded

A Whitehall Township woman was upgraded to serious condition Sunday after a three-car crash Saturday that involved the drummer of the rock band Great White.

Sandra Tepes, 56, remained in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, after being taken there by helicopter in critical condition after the accident on MacArthur Road in which she collided head-on with a car driven by Great White drummer Derrick Pontier, Whitehall police said. The collision, in the northbound lane, pushed Pontier's car into one driven by Jonathan Roth, 22, also of Whitehall.

Pontier, 36, of Huntingdon Beach, Calif., was taken by Cetronia Ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital, where he was treated and released. Roth, who went on his own to Lehigh Valley Hospital, also was treated and released.

Whitehall Police Chief Theodore Kohuth said Tepes was clearly at fault in the accident but would not elaborate, saying he would await the results of an investigation before further comment.

He has said that speed does not appear to be a factor.

Great White played in Allentown on Saturday night as part of a charity tour to raise money for victims of a fire sparked by pyrotechnics the band used while performing at a Rhode Island nightclub in February. One hundred people were killed in the fire, including the band's guitarist, Ty Longley.

Band members had been staying at the Ramada Inn in Whitehall, Kohuth said. Pontier was driving north in a rental car on MacArthur Road to get a bite to eat when Tepes' vehicle, heading south, ran into his at 12:35 p.m., Kohuth said.

Kohuth would not give details of the injuries Pontier appeared to have. He said they seemed ''significant'' and that he looked like he needed to go to the hospital.

Pontier did not perform at Saturday's concert at the Sterling Hotel. He was replaced by Bethlehem drummer John Cree.

I posted this because Geat White performed their first concert for this benefit tour near my home on Saturday night, but while in town, the drummer got into a pretty bad accident, he was ok the other lady is not so good but will be alright.

I am pretty sure you all remember the horrific fire in Rhode Island as a result of Great White's concert.  Several people were killed, including one member of the band
