Doctor to Celebs Had No License
Tue, Sep 30, 2003, 08:09 AM PT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - A doctor who pleaded no-contest on Monday (Sept. 29) to charges of practicing without a license and grand theft allegedly provided prescription drugs to celebrities such as Winona Ryder.

Jules Lusman lost his license last year on the same day Ryder was sentenced to three years probation and drug and psychological counseling for shoplifting, reports the AP.

Of Lusman's charges, his attorney Kendric Rollins says, "It was a borderline witch hunt brought because of the interest created during the Winona Ryder trial."

At the time, it was discovered that Ryder had 37 prescriptions filled by 20 doctors in a two-year period, according to her probations report.

Lusman had faced eight charges, but entered a plea to two in exchange for the dismissal of the other six.

He was sentenced to five years probation and 30 days of community service. He will also have to pay a fine and make restitution.

His license was actually revoked due to a non-celebrity case in which a woman who underwent cosmetic surgery similar to a Botox injection developed large bumps around her eyes. She received neither help nor a refund from the doctor.
