This story has surrounded me for the past week here in Toronto. How could anyone do this to a child and her family? how?

Someone broke into this little girl's home and kidnapped her from her bed. She is a bright happy student. She is 9 years old.

Her parents' grief is beyond words. Today is the one week anniversary of her disappearance.

Money cant buy you love, but police are hoping its enough to buy Cecilia Zhang her freedom. Chief Julian Fantino has authorized a $50,000 reward for the safe return of the nine-year-old girl, who was abducted exactly a week ago from her Whitehorn Crescent bedroom.

Posters with the childs picture will be going up all over town, with authorities hoping money will loosen some lips. If thats what it takes to bring her home safe and sound, thats fine, Fantino says about the reward. I believe there are people out there who know.

The Chief is adamant the girl will be found, and he had a message for the kidnappers. The honourable right thing will be, in spite of what may have happened to return Cecilia back to her parents. Its the humane thing to do. This is basically a helpless vulnerable little child, and we cant have this situation continue.

Fantino assures the investigation is proceeding according to the book, and warns the public shouldnt read anything into the fact the neighbourhood search has stopped for now, and certain departments have been called in. All the stops have been pulled at the Toronto Police Service, he maintains. We have brought together an array of experts from throughout the Service. So there should not be any conclusions drawn if we have people from the Sexual Unit or the Homicide Unit We have brought together the best we have to offer.

My feelings are always so torn up when I hear about stuff like this. I would certainly never wish any person, let alone a little child, to be taken or killed in this manner. At the same time I am glad her suffering is over and she doesn't have to go through life emotionally and physically changed like say Elizabeth Smart who came home alive, but was raped and mentally tortured for 9 months. As a parent I'd be both devastated and relieved...I read one time about a little boy who had been taken by a pedafile and kept until he went through puberty, when the boy finally escaped, but he was so damaged by what happened to him he eventually killed himself, and I guess that's my worst nightmare...if I didn't know what happened I'd always be haunted by that thought, that they could still be alive and living in hell. It's a horrible closure and one that I'd never wish on anyone, but at least they have closure. I feel awful for her parents...I wish this had never happened to them or to her at all.

When I read about people kidnapping small children I get a big urge to go Batman on them.

I don't mean the Saturday cartoon version. I mean the Dark Knight vigilante version.

It is amazing how deeply you feel in situations like this once you have a child. My whole world would be torn apart if something like this were to happen to my kids. God help the person who did it if I ever found them though... :freak:

They arrested a 21 year old male student yesterday who is in Canada going to College on a student visa from China, and they also arrested a woman. The man has been charged with first degree murder. The woman has not been charged.

The child new the man and the man had been to their home before. The police have been watching him for several weeks now. I don't know what evidence they have but his student visa was about to expire. Speculation is that it was an extortion attempt that went wrong.

Cecilia's parents are in seculsion to avoid the press.

Her body was found about 5 months ago.

At least they now have had a chance to know that their child is dead and finally there has been an arrest.

I feel so sad all over again.

I'm sad because I am reminded that she died, but I feel good that the police didn't just let this case fade away unsolved and thrilled to hear they have a suspect in custody.
