The parking garage was under construction.

(CNN) -- Six-stories of a parking garage under construction at the Atlantic City Tropicana Casino in New Jersey collapsed Thursday, resulting in multiple injuries, police said.

The collapse happened about 10:30 a.m., said a dispatcher for the fire department. "Everyone is just literally on the scene," she said.

A witness in a building a block from the site said she heard a large rumble, looked out her window and saw the structure -- with workers atop it -- fall.

"We're starting to get people," said Debbie Wrigley, a spokeswoman for Atlantic City Hospital. She did not know how many had arrived, but said they were being evaluated in the emergency room.
