Firefighting aircraft ready to head to California

An entire neighbourhood burns to the ground yesterday in the Cedar Glen area of Lake Arrowhead, Calif.

Sorry but - whoever does the online news for my paper, put the wrong story under the above headlines.

In essence, Manitoba and a host of other provinces have put firefighting aircraft on standby to help with raging wildfires in California, where firefighters yesterday struggled desperately to save emptied-out resort towns. ( :confused:

Manitoba has offered four CL-215 water bombers and two "birddog" guiding planes which help direct the water bombers.

The six aircraft and the 14 personnel needed to fly them, are on standby at the department's hanger on Ferry Road.

If Manitoba aircraft were needed, it would take about a day to get them to California.

Okay! That's great but why the standby? If it would take a day to get there, it might take another day for them to set up, too! I wish and hope this takes place ASAP.
