No one could love California anymore than I.  I miss her mountains, ocean, hills, desert lands, little towns...from the north to south, east to west.  I don't miss the happenings in the title of this thread.

When they get the fires out in So. CA they'll have to reseed as soon as humanly possible. The winter rains out there usually start about January and I see some disastrous flooding around the corner.

Seven Found Dead in California Mudslides

Saturday, December 27, 2003

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.  — Mudslides that heaved trees and boulders through two mountain camps left authorities with two grim tasks Saturday: identifying four children and three adults killed, and poking through acres of mud and debris in hopes of finding nine people still missing.

The bodies of the children, ages 9 to 17, and one of the adults were found near a Greek Orthodox camp, while the others were found near another campground about five miles away.

"Given the condition of the remains, it has been difficult for the families," said Deputy San Bernardino County Coroner Rocky Shaw.

In Waterman Canyon (search), where the children's bodies were found, emergency crews searched for nine people, including several children, still missing from Saint Sofia Camp (search) after Thursday's mudslides.

All this just breaks my heart because I know it's just the beginning of many tragedies at the end of 2003, into 2004.  May the good Lord bless them all.

The senility to forget the people I never liked
The good fortune to run into the ones that I do
And the eyesight to tell the difference."
