Freezing Rain Adds Slush, Causes Power Outages Following Heavy Snowfall

SEATTLE Jan. 8 — Rain continued to fall in the Northwest early Thursday, bringing no relief to a region already tried by two days of snow and rain that complicated travel, knocked out power and closed schools.
More than 50,000 customers remained without power Wednesday night in Seattle, Everett and the surrounding area. Utility crews scrambled to repair power lines brought down by ice-covered tree limbs.

My dad is in Idaho, in a particular area that does not get much snow normally in winter.  He told me they have 8 inches accumulation of snow on their porch this year, which is practically unheard of there.

this was the same situation up here in vancouver yesterday since our weather is always similar along the coast.  my front walkway was like a skating pond.  between this and then later afternoon slush and deep puddles, i did not know what i should be wearing ~ boots that grip or shoes that are waterproof.  what a scream that was!

They had a 30 tractor-trailer and 20 passenger vehicles accident on I-80 north of Bellefonte, PA, Tuesday morning during a snow squall induced blinding white-out.  I-80 was closed in both directions for over 24 hours due to fire and a hydrocloric acid spill.  At least 6 people died, and 17 were hospitalized.
