It's funny, but to me the most emotional picture is the one of the man smelling or kissing the envelope.  That little touch of home...you can almost see the tears or the hint of tears in his eyes.

I thought he might be smelling the scent of perfume from home. I always perfumed my letters to my Marine boyfriend way back when.
 
I like the cat (surprise). I like the juxtaposition between the soldier holding the vicious weapon in one hand & gently caressing the kitten with the other.
