Security guards for Primary School

There was a report on my local news show last night, they said that a primary school has prison style fences with only one gate that is locked after lunch time, and security guards that patrol school grounds - watch over parent - teacher interviews and over assemblies. This school has had problems with parents barging into to classrooms to scream and shout at the teachers with a class full of young kids, irate parents barging into principal's or vice principal's offices and scream and shout which makes everybody very  Angry :furious: But this isn't the end of it, teachers have handed out AVO's to 9 years old because of extreme verbal abuse and also physcial abuse such as kicking and scratching. Most of the teachers feel intimidated by the aggresive parents and children.

i say kick the offending kids out of school that would get rid of the offending parent too. I don't like the idea of not being able to visit the school when ever  I want to. The big fence and patroling guards is a good idea for keeping terrorism out though. they could give parents a school card to show the security at the gates. but locking out parents seems rediculous to me.  kabi

One of the most chilling things for me so far as a parent was when we were at the meeting to welcome parents who's children will be in kindergarten this coming year, and to have the principal calmly (and with a smile on her face) explain the school's lock-down proceedure in case there is a shooter in the school.

Being an older parent and not having these contemporary problems, I cannot imagine what it is like!
I see so many parents of younger children not being able to discipline them whether in private or in the public areas.  And I can imagine what our teachers must be going through.
I wish I knew the answer to what has changed.  I raised two sons and never had a major problem when I said no.   I have been accused of being strict,  but also gave them praise and kudos when they were reached their goals.
