McDonald's gets low-carb Coke

What is the world COMING TO?   I'm sorry but I just find this to be ridiculous.     Roll Eyes

McDonald's gets low-carb Coke

No. 1 fast-food chain to offer new C2 cola in a limited number of its restaurants.
June 11, 2004: 10:41 AM EDT

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - McDonald's Corp., the No .1 fast-food chain that's been on a mission to its revamp its image, said it will offer Coca-Cola's new low-carb "C2" cola in a limited number of its restaurants.

Oak Brook- Ill.-based McDonald's (MCD: Research, Estimates), announced late Thursday that the company is sampling C2 in about 27 restaurants in five markets, including Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Orlando.

"We're responding again to what our consumers are telling us they want," Don Knauss, McDonald's chief operating officer of its North America division, said in a statement.

Added Knauss, "Today's consumers are looking for choices that fit their lifestyles. They want to keep enjoying the special cola taste that Coca-Cola delivers, but with the option of a lower-carb, lower-calorie soft drink. Coca-Cola C2 gives that freedom of choice."

McDonald's and other fast food chains have come under increasing attack from health and nutrition experts -- and have been the target of class-action lawsuits -- alleging their hamburgers and french fries are a major cause of obesity.

Coca-Cola's new low-carb "C2" cola debuted nationwide this week.
The company said it's sampling the new drink from Friday through Sunday at participating locations where customers will be offered either a free C2 with any purchase or a 12 ounce can of C2 with the purchase of a McDonald's extra value meal.

A limited number of restaurants will offer C2 as a fountain beverage beginning June 11.

McDonald's will decide whether or not to make C2 a permanent addition to its fountain beverage choices once it completes the test phase.

Coca-Cola (KO: Research, Estimates), the world's largest beverage company, launched C2 nationwide this week. According to Coke, the new cola has about half the carbohydrates, calories and sugar of regular cola.

Not yet, but if I see it I will definitely try it.  I think nutrasweet coke tastes just nasty, but I have been diagnosed as borderline diabetic and required to cut back carbs significantly.  Low carb coke that tastes like normal coke?  Bring it on I say!

I think half the carbs of a regular coke is still too many for me...we need splenda sweetened pop!..The only decent aspartame pop is A&W diet rootbeer...that aspartame is so bad for you though. Cry

Does anyone know how many carbs are in this new coke?

Diet Dr. Pepper is not bad, actually, but I agree about the diet A&W.   I am also waiting for the full splenda drinks. Smiley

Crystal Lite makes a yummy raspberry drink that I like, but don't give it to the kids, it stains carpet horribly.  I also think that the Diet Pepsi with Vanilla is pretty good, I am a Coke drinker normally, but the Vanilla seems to go better with Diet pepsi for some reason.  It's worth a try anyway...

My husband's favorite drink is to just squirt a little bit of lemon juice in it and then add one packet of splenda.  He says it makes a very tasty lemonade and he can sweeten/sour it to taste.  Sometimes he'll just add a single packet of splenda to plain old water and it just lightly sweetens it and gives a little variety.  I thought that sounded blechhy till I tried it and it wasn't bad...it was just a nice change from the plain water from time to time.

DJ, I'm guessing you aren't aware of what Splenda is.  It's derived from sugar, but it's non caloric and doesn't attach to your body like regular sugar.  It's safe for diabetics and would not cause or influence obesity, but rather quite the opposite.  You should do a little research before you jump the gun. I also would prefer more diet beverages sweetened with Splenda.  Rhune is correct about this product.

Hey Rhune have you tried the Diet Rite product line? They are sweeted with Spenda and they have lots of flavors. My favorite is the Black Cherry.
