Jackson paid $23 million to 1993 accuser
Pop singer reportedly agreed to pay for 'alleged negligence'

Michael Jackson paid $23 million in settlement money to the boy who accused him of child molestation in 1993, according to Court TV and MSNBC-TV.
 
Jackson is currently under indictment and awaiting trial in another case involving child molestation charges.
 
The pop superstar reportedly paid $15 million into a trust fund for the boy, $3 million to the boy's parents and $5 million to the boy's attorney.
 
Court TV also reported that in the settlement, Jackson says that the agreement cannot be construed as admission that he acted wrongfully in respect to the minor, but he did agree to pay for alleged negligence.
 
In the original document, it was alleged that Jackson had offensive contact with the young plantiff "which were explicitly sexual and otherwise."
 
It is unclear if this information would be brought into evidence in Jackson's current case. Jackson's trial is tentatively scheduled to begin on September 13.
 
Santa Barbara County Judge Rodney S. Melville refused to lower Jackson’s $3 million bail, saying the singer’s wealth justified the higher-than-normal bail amount. He added that the bail should remain higher than what is typically imposed on defendants facing similar charges to ensure that Jackson appears at future court dates.

Paying 23 mil for something he claims he didnt do! If it wasnt for the child being harmed i would find this laughable

It's an awful lot of money to pay out if you believe you are falsely accused...add to that the money it cost him in future sales from people like me who wanted nothing more to do with him again...If he was innocent he should have fought no matter what.

Maybe he just couldn't be bothered Rhune, they could have continued to harass him, and make up stories, that is what i believe about Michael Jackson, he would never do such as disgusting thing. (and i hardly ever believe the media, the media always or almost always never tell the whole truth, or jump on it when they don't know all the facts)

Well, there was news here a year ago where the reporters interviewed a Filipino couple who worked for MJ before. They said that MJ sleeps with kids in their undies, but they're not sure if he actually harasses them.
 
He also has a double, a person who looks exactly like him. Who would want something like that? He really needs psychiatric help, I think.

I agree with rhune..thats alot of money to shut someone up if your innocent. if he were he should have spent that money to prove his innocence. i guess we will all have to wait to find out. hopefully it wont be another OJ trial.  kabi

Yep same thing in Australia when this dude named the Postcard Bandit escaped from prison the media where all over it, This man was infamoulsy known for sending postcards to the police after he had robbed a business he was on the run for a few months until they finally caught him, the media were continually saying over and over how incompetent the security was and why the govermnet didn't care about dangerous prisoners

Yeah, the media swings in both ways, good and bad.  
 
Anyways, about MJ, I dearly hope he is innocent, but as kabi said, we just have to wait to find out...
