'Idol' Host Reportedly Slams Simon Cowell

SINGAPORE - Ryan Seacrest, the host of singing competition "American Idol," said judge Simon Cowell is arrogant and pompous and says things that are "too harsh," a report said Wednesday.

But Seacrest added that Cowell was a good friend and the "most honest" of the show's three judges, in an interview with the Straits Times newspaper in Singapore, where a local version of the program is planned.  
 
 
"I think that he's pompous. I think that he's arrogant. So my feelings about him, and the way that I address him on air, are very real," the 29-year-old Seacrest said in the interview.  
 
 
Cowell is famous for his searing putdowns of contestants who do not, in his opinion, make the grade with their performances.  
 
 
"I think he says things that are at times a bit too harsh and could probably convey them in a different light so that they don't crush a young person's dream," Seacrest said.  
 
 
Last month, a record 65 million U.S. phone votes were cast in the finale of the latest "American Idol" season. Fantasia Barrino, a 19-year-old single mother, emerged as the tearful winner.  
 
 
Seacrest said the show "will certainly be on air for the next few years."  
 
 
"There's no telling what will happen after that but as long as people are watching it, then we should make the show," he said.

I agree with him though. I think Simon could give out more constructive criticism but in my heart I know how rough the industry is and if they can't handle him then they won't survive. I still feel for them when he lets loose though.

Borad, you touched on the point of how tough the business is. These guys need to have a realistic experience on the show. That way if they dont win the record deal they will at least be prepared when they go for thier first couple interviews.
 
And here are a couple points to consider.
 
1. We just finished season 3, does Seacrispy really think that Simons rudeness is anything new to most of North America?
 
2. "dont bite the hand that feeds ya"

SO Right! But our Australian Idol judge Ian Dickson came back from Britain after World Idol and said that nobody except him and the Canadian or British judge (I cant remember which one) had something construtive to say he said that Simon was the 2nd worst judge there (1st Poland) by his comments

I think Simon knows the industry well but he lacks in the personality side.
 
At least he knows something. Paula is a complete waste to me beyond the eyecandy aspect.
