A McKinney family is mourning the death of a hometown soldier in Iraq. 2nd Lt. Brian Smith was killed Friday during combat operations near Baghdad.

This was reported last night on our news.  This young man had finished law school, was practicing law, decided he was needed in the military after 9-11.

He was 30 years old, leaves a wife, parents and siblings.

Quoted from his Dad, "I remember the day he was placed in my hands, he was a good son, a good husband, a good brother.  I'm glad I had 30 years to get to know him and the fine man he bacame, and I'll spend the rest of my life missing him".

***This young man lived in our county, as his parents do also.  This is the first death of a soldier in Iraq.

God Bless his family as we offer them prayers.

I'm saddened to hear this, luci.  It makes this war seem so much more real when it hits "home".  You can count on me for prayers for this hero's family.

Edit -  After reading my post I realized that we aren't at "war" with Iraq any more,  so they tell us.  Sad

Edit II -  I didn't intend to quote myself, lol, I hit the wrong button, sorry.

Irish, it's OK.  Try telling parents who've lost a son in
Iraq that the USA isn't at war.

His service with full military honors is Saturday.
