Martha Stewart Gets 5 Months in Prison

NEW YORK - Domestic icon Martha Stewart moved one step closer to a drastically different lifestyle behind bars when the millionaire entrepreneur was sentenced Friday to five months in prison for a stock-trading scandal.

"I'll be back," she promised afterward, speaking in a strong voice on the courthouse steps. "I'm not afraid. Not afraid whatsoever. I'm very sorry it had to come to this."

She also was ordered to serve five months of home confinement for lying to federal investigators. Stewart, who was also fined $30,000, was spared an immediate trip to federal prison when U.S. District Court Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum stayed her sentence pending appeal.

In the courtroom, her voice was shaky as she appealed for a reduced sentence, asking the judge to "remember all the good I have done."

"Today is a shameful day. It's shameful for me, for my family and for my company," she said.

But outside the courthouse, Stewart was far more forceful and confident, complaining that a "small personal matter" was blown out of proportion and promising that she would not go quietly.

Even though I've never cared for the woman, I definitely hate to see this happen to her.  What's she ever done before, a traffic ticket, maybe!
Hopefully she will get an appeal and can do more good outside in community serivce.

I'm definitely not crying at all.  I did hear Susan McDugall's description this morning of a federal prison.  Country Club living maybe, stripped search after a visitor, not such a happy, dignified thought!

I for one am glad to see a celebrity go to prison at all for what they have done.  If she had been anyone other than Martha Stewart (or someone that well known as a celebrity) do you think this is all the time she would be doing?

OK, OK, ladies, I can't stand the woman, but "moi" was trying to be nice about Martha!  It's clear to me why her husband left her and her daughter is not in her life.  There, I said it! Lips Sealed

I was shocked when watching CNN a few hours ago. I feel sad, cuz I think she has contributed a lot. And that she is nice(well thats what we see in media)...

She is to serve 5 months in jail, and I heard that there is no break for good conduct unlike before. 2 years probation with 5 months house arrest, and I heard in CNN she chose her house in NY.

But what she did hurt our country and our economy.  Even nice people aren't above the law, and are still accountable for any bad actions they have chosen.

Heres why I am happy that she went to "jail"

she deserves it..... thats it, plain and simple

the lady is guilty, and if she was named janice watkins she would be serving a min of 2 years to 10 years in a medium security prison. The only reason that she was even considered for house arrest and ended up getting the min time in a MIN security prison is because her name is Martha Stewart. Yet another case where a celeberty status helps you out.

Hey sweetmisery,

"I was shocked when watching CNN a few hours ago. I feel sad, cuz I think she has contributed a lot. And that she is nice(well thats what we see in media)... "

I know that the press might paint her in a good light, but the reality is that she is two steps down from Leona Helmsly (queen of mean), Martha is notorious for taking others work and claiming it as her own (allbeit not the forst person ever), she is also known for going through employees faster then she can hire them, and for a reason...., and I know she might have "contributed" a few baking recipies and tips on needlework, but she also is guilty of a crime.... so she should do the time

count me as one hella happy camper to see her go away.......

best part is that this should  Kiss her career goodbye

 :laff: Janice Watkins.   Hysterical.

I agree.   I think she should have done AT LEAST a year in a real prison.    No celebrity should be above the law or receive any special privileges.
