Puppy shoots Florida man, deputies say
Dog put paw on gun's trigger as owner tried to kill him
The Associated Press

Updated: 3:52 p.m. ET Sept. 9, 2004
PENSACOLA, Fla. - A man who tried to shoot seven puppies was shot himself when one of the dogs put its paw on the revolver’s trigger.

Jerry Allen Bradford, 37, was charged with felony animal cruelty, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday. He was being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound to his wrist.

Bradford said he decided to shoot the 3-month-old shepherd-mix dogs in the head because he couldn’t find them a home, according to the sheriff’s office.

On Monday, Bradford was holding two puppies — one in his arms and another in his left hand — when the dog in his hand wiggled and put its paw on the trigger of the .38-caliber revolver. The gun then discharged, the sheriff’s report said.

Deputies found three of the puppies in a shallow grave outside Bradford’s home, said sheriff’s Sgt. Ted Roy.

The other four appeared to be in good health and were taken by Escambia County Animal Control, which planned to make them available for adoption.

Ok, I've thought this over.  The man lives in Florida.
Two Hurricanes already and Ivan bearing down on them.  Maybe his house was destroyed.  Everyone around him seemed to be!
When a person has lost everything, the last responsibity he wants are more mouths to feed when there is no food, water or electricity.
Let's give him a break and try to understand he may not have had an alternative.

I have to respectfully disagree.  There are always choices and this man could have taken them to the local shelter instead of trying to shoot them in the head.  While I appreciate that he didn't just turn them out to starve, his method seems a little above and beyond what's acceptable to do.  I have to wonder what the gentleman's IQ is.

While I DO NOT agree with what he did one bit, the shelters were full!   I saw this on the news.
Yes, it does seem there could ahve been a better way Cry

Who knows, he may be the kind of guy that does this anyway.  If so, shame on him Angry

Well he got his reasons, and I think he knows the consequences, and now paying them! To me, anyone who treats animals, especially dogs cruelly is my enemy! In fact, Im proud to say that I enjoy spending time with dogs than most people I know!

So true Sweet, dogs are loyal and true to us, aren't they?
We both miss our little Shih Tzu  Cry and would like to have another, but it is such a problem when we want to leave for a week or more!  Maybe someday, another one Grin

You never know what motivation a person has to do this kind of thing, but Florida has been in such turmoil lately with the hurricanes, we don't know his reasoning.

I personally do not see how anyone could shoot an animal, I sure couldn't do it.  My opinion is that if you can look a 3 month old puppy in the eye and shoot him, it would be easy to do this to a person.  If it's the cost of the food, guess we'd  have to share or go hungry together.

We all don't like it, but none of us are walking in his shoes!
God can judge him, I'm not qualified!

Poppies are adorable and irresistable! (same level as my girlfriend, past present and future - not all though!!!)...

Our nine month Basset Hound can always bring smile to me. Even when Im tired or away... His name alone can bring  great joy. My bro and I named it, "the two syllable of happiness - Hoju!"...

Awwwww, I'm so lonesome for another little Shih Tzu.  This time I would like to have a toy one.  They are precious.
A puppy/dog in our home is treated like royalty Cool
We're it's pet!
