Amber Alert Issued for Premature Missouri Baby

The Nodaway County, Missouri Sheriff's Department issued the Amber Alert early Friday morning after the unborn infant was cut from her murdered mother's body in Skidmore on Thursday afternoon.

The infant is approximately one month premature and police believe the child could have survived but will require medical attention.

Police do not have specific information on the suspect or suspects. A red late 80's or early 90's two-door hatchback, possibly a Honda, was seen in the driveway of the murdered woman's home in Skidmore Missouri on Thursday afternoon. Police are looking for the vehicles and three "persons of interest" that were seen at the home, two males and one female. One of them may have blond hair.

No further information is available at this time. Medical facilities in all surrounding states should be on the look out for an infant carried by an apparently health individual with no signs of recent pregnancy.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Nodaway County Sheriff's Department at 660-582-7451 or dial 911.

(CNN) -- Authorities found a healthy, two-day old baby girl in Kansas that they are hopeful is the same infant taken from her mother's womb Thursday after the woman was killed in Skidmore, Missouri.

An Amber Alert for the missing infant will not be canceled until a DNA test is completed, said Sheriff Ben Espey of Nodaway County, Missouri.

Bobbi Jo Stinnett, 23, was eight months pregnant when she slain at about 3 p.m. Thursday (4 p.m. ET) in her house in Skidmore in northwest Missouri.

Authorities said they believe she was strangled with a rope or other type of line.

The baby was taken from her body, possibly with a knife, Espey said early Friday.

"I've been in law enforcement 20 years, 12 as sheriff," Espey said. "This is one of the worst ordeals we've had to deal with."

Stinnett's mother found her daughter's body and called 911 at 3:38 p.m. Thursday.

An autopsy was under way Friday.

Amber Alert delay
Espey said he went to a local member of Congress after he was told that the case did not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert because authorities did not know the child's hair or eye color or any other details.

He said the alert was delayed until about midnight.

"I'm a little disappointed that it happened like it did," he said. "All of us standing here feel like this baby, even though it was taken a month premature, we had a live baby. I feel like that should justify an Amber Alert."

Authorities said that Stinnett was a white woman and the baby was believed to be a white female.

Police: Blond hair found in victim's hand
Police have been looking for a red, two-door Honda hatchback, a late '80s or early '90s model, Espey said. A similar car was seen overnight in another Missouri county, but authorities lost it during a pursuit.

Blond hair was found clutched in Stinnett's hand and could provide DNA evidence, Espey said. Fingerprints also were found at the scene, but no weapon was discovered, he said. There were no signs of forced entry.

Stinnett and her husband bred dogs and sold them over the Internet, neighbors said, adding that it was not unusual to see cars parked outside their house.

Neighbor Chris Law said he saw a car at the house about the same time authorities believe the slaying occurred, and he said he regrets not going to check on Stinnett.

Stinnett's husband was at work at the time and has been eliminated as a suspect, Espey said. Authorities removed a computer from the home and were attempting to find Internet contacts as part of the investigation.

"Everybody said she's a nice lady," Espey said. "She didn't have any enemies."

One theory under examination is that the baby might have been taken to be sold, he said.

"When someone would murder somebody and take a child, the reason for that is either they want it themselves, or they can make a profit from it," he said.

Skidmore is about 35 miles north of St. Joseph, Missouri.

It's pretty freaky, first thing this morning they were saying they believed it was a black market thingy and that she was the first of 3 planned, although they haven't talked more about that this afternoon. The baby was taken just north of me and found a little southwest of me, so they had to have passed right through here.

Yeah, they appear to be moving away from the blackmarket theory. The latest news is that the woman who's now been charged suffered a miscarriage not too long ago. Perhaps the list of 3 was 3 people she was considering doing this to...

Usually when this happens it is a woman who can't have children or has had a miscarriage.
Maybe some of you remember an 8 months pregnant woman in New Mexico years ago being abducted and the woman killed her and cut her open with a key to get the baby. Very sad! This woman had waited outside an OBGYN office for a woman who was advanced into the pregnancy to abduct.

It isn't paranoid to be cautious for one never knows what crazy person is lurking.

Rhune that must have been so scarey. I just can't imagine this happening.

It does remind me of the importance of not meeting strangers alone. there are so many internet transactions that result in arranged meetings to pickup something. I myself went over a woman's home in my neighbourhood to pick up an ebay purchase. Upon reflection that was dumb of me.

The latest news is that the killer was probably never pregnant to begin with (they were originally saying she suffered a miscarriage recently). It's looking more and more like she planned this well in advance and faked the whole pregnancy. Her husband has been completely cleared and apparently was totally clueless and thought she really was really pregnant and then had a baby until the police came knocking.
