Virgina Bill Sets Fine For Low Riding Pants!

RICHMOND, Va. - Virginians who wear their pants so low their underwear shows may want to think about investing in a stronger belt.

The state's House of Delegates passed a bill Tuesday authorizing a $50 fine for anyone who displays his or her underpants in a ``lewd or indecent manner.''

Del. Lionell Spruill Sr., a Democrat who opposed the bill, had pleaded with his colleagues to remember their own youthful fashion follies.

During an extended monologue Monday, he talked about how they dressed or wore their hair in their teens. On Tuesday, he said the measure was an unconstitutional attack on young blacks that would force parents to take off work to accompany their children to court just for making a fashion statement.

``This is a foolish bill, Mr. Speaker, because it will hurt so many,'' Spruill said before the measure was approved 60-34. It now goes to the state Senate.

The bill's sponsor, Del. Algie T. Howell, has said constituents were offended by the exposed underwear. He did not speak on the floor Tuesday.

Spruill and Howell, also a Democrat, are both black.

This fashion trend is one that irrates me although I have to admit that my age probably factors in to it.

my point is that the Dem guy was right, how stupid is it to fine someone for what the wear unless its nothing at all.... oh wait, thats actually legal in alot of places...lol

"Spruill and Howell, also a Democrat, are both black"
Please tell  me why this was pertinent to the bill, or made a difference in any way Roll Eyes?

OK, this bill is stupid, but so are wearing clothes that one can slide down at the whosh of wind and fall down and show your arse Roll Eyes

Trends and times!  I remember the time our school board President took his two teenage daughter to shop for clothes just to see if they could find clothes with a longer hem line.  Didn't happen, for that was the style Roll Eyes

Personally, I like neat!  Baggy pants, OK, but wear them around the hips at least, not to the knees Roll Eyes  This bill won't pass in the Senate.

Let's remember where the "fashion" (and I use the term VERY loosely) of allowing your pants to droop and not wearing a belt, came from.  It came from copying how CRIMINALS and INMATES look as they wear their pants because they are not allowed to have a belt in Jail.

This piece of legislation is more of a statement of what certain lawmakers think of the poor choice of roll models by certain segments of today's youth.  It's not likely to make it out of the Assembly as a law, and rightly so.

There is GOOD fashion, FAD fashion and BAD fashion!  Baggy pants/shorts are definitely on my BAD fashion list!  Not in good taste at all.  Baggy to the point of taking a breath and them falling off is very daring for one, in my opininon!

Basketball shorts are baggy now and to us look horrible.
Oh MY!  If the Baptist Minister who came to our gym and tried to talk our Coach into putting us in warm up pants were alive to see these, he would be pleased indeed!

I do believe had we been given these baggy uniforms we might have considered mutiny.  Coach did appease the eye rolling adults with ordering uniforms with a band of fabric and elastic sewn just under the hem.
We fell, slid or bent over, we showed nothing Wink

Thankfully our sons grew up in the days of starched jeans, shirts, Justin Roper Boots, Western Belt and a fragrance that would make one want to nibble on their neck!  Oh  Shocked that's Mr. L!  You get the picture Wink
As a matter of fact, our sons still dresss this way and I LOVE IT Cool

Whatever anyone's choice, NEAT is always in and folks shouldn't dress in such a way that our legislators see the need to pass laws to enforce good taste!

Yes, Bumper, they do look like criminals and also suspicious,
as in shoplifting, with so much fabric for storage!

I think it's a fashion statement and there is no room for regulating fashion.

Addams, you are so right!  Bad fashion, drugs, and prostitution has been
around since time began and will be around when we're long gone!

I'm all for someone passing a law that mall brats shouldn't wear fashions their overly ample figures can't pour into.

Personally, I think it's laughable to see a plus-sized teenager trying to wear hip huggers and tops that show off their midriffs.

And no, I'm not prejudiced against heavy people.  (I'm not only a member of the heavy club--I'm also the president.)
