Michael Jackson Hospitalized With Flu

By TIM MOLLOY, Associated Press Writer

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Michael Jackson was taken to an emergency room with flu-like symptoms Tuesday, delaying jury selection in the pop star's child-molestation case for a week.

The entertainer was being treated for a "flu-like illness with some vomiting," Dr. Chuck Merrill said during a brief news conference at Marian Medical Center about five hours after Jackson's illness was announced in court by the judge.

"He's in stable condition and we expect a full recovery," Merrill said.

The doctor would not answer questions, and it was not immediately known how long Jackson would be at the hospital.

Earlier, as potential jurors filed into the courtroom _ including a few who were scolded by bailiffs for being late _ Jackson's seat remained empty. Nearly 20 minutes after the singer was scheduled to arrive, Judge Rodney S. Melville announced that Jackson had been taken to a hospital.

He said the 46-year-old singer would need three or four days to recover and noted that several members of the jury pool were out with the flu and that it appeared to be going around.

The judge said Jackson had been on his way to court but was taken to a hospital emergency room instead.

Outside the hospital, about two miles from the courthouse, a growing crowd of about 50 fans and reporters gathered. Police officers guarded all entrances, stopping anyone who appeared to be with the news media, while hospital officials put up white fabric to hide what was going on in the emergency room.

How many times do normal people go to the emergency room when they have the flu?  Some do but I daresay most of us take medicine, go to bed, and then make a doctor's appointment if we don't feel better.

How CONVENIENT that his flu started on the way to the courthouse.  How CONVENIENT that things will have to be delayed a week.

Aside from being a study case for psychology, I believe Jacko is also a hypochondriac.  Remember how he showed up a court (was it just last year) on crutches because of a spider bite?  I think he wants attention so badly that he'll do anything for it and do anything to play upon the pity of his fans.

No pity from me, though.  Yes, I do have very strong feelings about this.  I think that he is guilty.  I think that if he were truly innocent, he would be anxious for this trial to get underway and be over.

I still think the mother herself is guilty for letting this unorthodox relationship between her son and Jacko continue for so long.

How many alleged pedophiles have a list of celebrities lined up to testify on their behalves?  I REALLY hope this turns out to be a fair trial, regardless of celebrity, money, or whatever.

Where is Boradamer?  Where is Puff?  That sentence is just ripe for the picking--no pun intended.

It's not like the people he's calling in for character witnesses are any prize....Liz Taylor?  Kobe Bryant?  Diana Ross?  These are not the people I would want to paint a character witness for me.

And what kind of "character" are these witnessness supposed to testify about?  "Oh, yes.  Michael and I attended the same celebrity function."  "Michael and I were on the same TV special together."  Now, I know that he and Liz are good friends but, come on.  Jay Leno?  Kobe Bryant?  Chris Tucker?

Call some of his household employees who've seen Michael without makeup, running around his mansion with young boys to be character witnesses!

There is a report in a local magazine here that Liz Taylors family have banned Jacko from calling her. Apparently he would call quite late at night  with his "woe is me" story.

Lizs family are concerned for her well being as she is not in the best of health and they fear Jacko is creating even more stress for her.

If he really cared about Liz jacko would leave her well alone!

So true, this is all probably his attorney's idea.
What can Jay Leno say, "yeah, I had him on my show 15 yrs ago when he was still a black boy"!  Or, "I invited him to my house for I knew my wife was safe from him!"
Some people!  Maybe all these parents of the young boys should be on trial.  Who in their right mind would allow a 12 yr old to stay overnight with a 40 yr old Roll Eyes

You're absolutely right.  They are just trying to use celebrities to wow the jury.  They are hoping some icon the jury members trust and adore will show up so they can make their client look good.

Let's just hope that the justice system is blind (this time) to money and fame.
