Moment of silence

I'm not sure how much coverage of the events of last week here in Alberta made it into the news wherever you all are.

Last Thursday morning, 4 RCMP officers were killed while guarding a chop shop and grow-op just out of Mayerthorpe Alberta.

Tomorrow (March 10) a national memorial service is being held for those officers. Please take a minute in your day and think about how much those in public service (whether they be cops, firefighters or others) do to serve and protect us all.

I have heard of this Red, I will take time for a moment of slience for these men.  Its so sad for them and for all the men and women who are so brave to protect us each and everyday here in Canada and abroad.

The Thin Blue Line

There is a line
the color of the sky
on a clear afternoon

There is a line
the hue of the ocean
on a bright sunny day

There is a line
the purest shade of a newborn's eyes
awakening for the first time

There is a line
that protects us from harm
in all we do
whether day or night

There is a line
no one can penetrate
no one can alleviate

There is a line
made of those who choose
to follow a calling many do not hear
and still more do not comprehend

They choose to walk
the path of fear, hate, and mistrust
taken by so few
but marked by so many

And when one leaves this line
they leave a legacy
but the line does not break
for the remaining must still protect

There may be emptiness
a loss, or sadness
but never a hole
not in this line

This line that holds
the ghosts of the souls who have gone
and the souls of the ghosts who will be
The Thin Blue Line

(by Kimberly A. Erb)

May God Bless these fallen heros and watch over my brothers on the Thin Blue Line.

Years ago I read an article from the wife of a police officer, who's husband had been shot in the line of duty.  There was a part I never forgot because it's just so visual to me, but she talked about the first time she understood the "blue line" and that feeling of family between officers was when she arrived at the hospital, her husband still on the table in surgery, and as she got off the elevator on the floor there was a solid line of men and women in blue clear down the hall and around the corner, each waiting their turn to see if they were a suitable blood type match to donate blood to her husband.

thank you Red for stopping by to remind us all to take a minute of silence.  This was beyond my belief.  Very very tragic.
