Woman Found Finger In Chili
« on: Mar 29th, 2005, 8:58pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

San Jose, California - A woman who officials say bit down on part of a finger in a bowl of chili at a Wendy's restaurant has taken the first step toward pursuing a lawsuit. She has filed a claim with the franchise owner.

Officials say the woman scooped up the inch-and-a-half long fingertip in a mouthful of chili last week in San Jose, California.

She's told ABC's "Good Morning America" that knowing a human body part was in her mouth was "disgusting." Her attorney says he'll try to seek a resolution without having to go to court.

A Wendy's spokesman isn't commenting on the claim. He says Wendy's maintains the finger did not enter the food chain in its ingredients.

Yesterday, the news reported that this woman has a history of filing lawsuits against restaurants.  Hmmmm?  False claim? I hope we know for sure, eventually.

Well, I HAVE read something before that a finger was found in a bowl of salad. Apparently, the cook was cutting up the leaves and she accidentally cut her finger. In all the chaos, I think no one noticed that her finger was in the leaves she was cutting and they put it in with the rest of the clean leaves.

Either the woman is very unlucky, or she's making this up. :inquisitive:

According to news reports today, it seems that this poor distraught, tramatized woman who just happened to find that severed fingertip in her Wendy's hot chili, has NOW decided NOT to sue Wendy's Restaurants for damages.  She said she's just too tramatized and wants to put it all behind her and go on with her life.  Roll Eyes

Now WHY you say, would she not sue if in fact she actually DID find something in her chiliHuh

Well, could it be that after a little checking, it was discovered that this poor unfortunate woman had a HISTORY of sueing people/companies for various things?

OR could it be that she had second thoughts after the Police served a search warrant on her house, taking a computer, documents and other undisclosed items.

OR could it be that authorities are quickly closing in on the original owner of said finger thru DNA testing?

OR could it be that this woman just realized how much trouble she's in by FAKING this whole thing.  Shocked

Hmmmmmm, I don't think Wendy's Restaurant's lawyers are going to be as agreeable to just forgetting the whole thing.   Wink

SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- The woman who claimed she found a well-manicured finger in her bowl of Wendy's chili last month was arrested Thursday night in Las Vegas, police said.

Anna Ayala was taken into custody at her home, San Jose police spokesman Enrique Garcia said. He said police would not give any details until a news conference Friday afternoon. Las Vegas police also refused to comment.

The arrest is the latest twist in the bizarre case about how the 11/2-inch fingertip ended up in a bowl of fast-food chili.

Ayala told police she found the finger March 22 while eating at a Wendy's in San Jose. She said she intended to sue but relented, claiming the publicity was too emotionally taxing.

When police and health officials failed to find any missing digits among the workers involved in the restaurant's supply chain, suspicion fell on Ayala, whose story has become a late-night punch line.

Ayala has a litigious history. She has filed claims against several corporations, including a former employer and General Motors, though it is unclear from court records whether she received any money. She said she got $30,000 from El Pollo Loco after her 13-year-old daughter got sick at one of the chain's Las Vegas-area restaurants. El Pollo Loco officials say she did not get a dime.

Earlier Thursday, Ohio-based Wendy's International Inc. announced it had ended its internal investigation, saying it could find no credible link between the finger and the restaurant chain.

All the employees at the San Jose store were found to have all their fingers, and no suppliers reported any hand or finger injuries, the company said.

Sales have dropped at franchises in Northern California, forcing layoffs and reduced hours, the company said. Wendy's also has hired private investigators, set up a hot line for tips and offered a $100,000 reward for anyone who provides information leading to the finger's original owner.

I heard about this one from my mom. I'm just glad my nearest Wendy's is in New Jersey and not San Jose, California!

The problem, Superchic, is that the woman lied about the finger in her chili.....she did it herself.  The people who paid the price for her lie are the minimum wage earners that had lose hours because people believed her, and Wendys in general.

Don't you just hate that?? Brisbane resturant somebody claimed that a finger was in their sushi, and their really was!!! aparently this fish wasn't fish! It was flake, which is shark meat. It seems that the fisherman who caught th shark had his finger bitten off when he was pulling it (I think he had nerve damage so he was unable to feel it) The resturant was sued a large amount of money and even though it wasn't there fault and the courts dismissed the case they had to close down because nobody wanted to eat there anymore!
