A Reminder! Daylight Savings Time Returns
« on: Apr 2nd, 2005, 6:06pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

WASHINGTON (April 2) - Break out the croquet set and set up the barbecue. Daylight-saving time was making its return this weekend.

That meant pushing the clocks ahead - spring forward - to gain an hour of light in the evening for warm summer recreation. The official change was at 2 a.m. Sunday, local time.

It's also a good time to replace batteries in smoke alarms, safety advocates urge.

Daylight-saving time ends the last Sunday in October.

Some parts of the country don't observe daylight-saving time. These include Arizona, Hawaii, the part of Indiana in the Eastern time zone, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and American Samoa.

Even tho it confuses us when we forget, we already did it.  Who wants to run around changing clocks at bedtime....especially when you have as many clocks as we do.   Den 3 clocks, LR 3 clocks, DR 1 clock, kitchen 3 clocks (counting microwave and stove) bathrooms 1 each,   master 3 clocks (one I never changed in Oct.) guest room 1 clock.  This is not counting watches and clocks in the vehicles.    Oops, I forgot the VCR in here, but I think it changes itself.

I hate DST - and I agree, all the clocks to change.. my VCR's change themselves, but like you, still have alarms clocks, one in the kitchen, etc.  I hate changing the one in my truck, I always forget how to do it, and I'm in there pushing buttons trying to figure it out.. you'd think they'd have those things fixed to adjust automatically by now..  Undecided

it don't bother me much other than it throws off my internal clock majorly.

I changed the clock in my bedroom before bed, I wake up and it's already 8:45!!!  Half the day is gone! I feel like i have all this time, but in reality i don't!  Then i get really confused when i look at unchanged clocks.

I want my hour of sleep back!!!

We both like this time, but detest it changing back in October.  We like light and sunshine!

Two years ago we had three fronts of hailstorms, with each one getting worse than the one before, trying to finish packing for our early morning Maui flight, going 5 hours ahead in time at that!  It took me until Wednesday of that next week to finally get completely awake.  My body clock was way off!

A Reminder to myself - don't go to Maui the weekend of the time change again, just make sure to get back to MAUI  Grin

We don't adjust too well to the change, but when we do, we like DST.  It's nice having long summer evenings.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- If Congress passes an energy bill, Americans may see more daylight-saving time.
Lawmakers crafting energy legislation approved an amendment Wednesday to extend daylight-saving time by two months, having it start on the first Sunday in March and end on the last Sunday in November.
"Extending daylight-saving time makes sense, especially with skyrocketing energy costs," said Rep. Fred Upton, R-Michigan, who along with Rep. Ed Markey, D-Massachusetts, co-sponsored the measure.
The amendment was approved by the House Energy and Commerce Committee that is putting together major parts of energy legislation likely to come up for a vote in the full House in the coming weeks.
"The more daylight we have, the less electricity we use," said Markey, who cited Transportation Department estimates that showed the two-month extension would save the equivalent of 10,000 barrels of oil a day.
The country uses about 20 million barrels of oil a day.

ohh... it gets a bit confusing in tracking time there specially when you guys change time.... my parents are in California and calls me weekly and I tend to forget the time differences at times...

well.. I guess I'm lucky that when DST was tested here a decade ago it didn't work.... or else I'll also be changing at least 15 clocks in the house.. hehehe....

Ok, I almost missed TAR because of this darn DST. I never thought it would affect me until I found out TAR aired one hour earlier!  Angry Luckily I checked the TV (because my sister asked me what time it will air) an hour earlier.
