BALTIMORE Apr 11, 2005 Miss North Carolina was crowned Miss USA in the 54th annual pageant Monday night. Chelsea Cooley, 21 yr old Brunette, was crowned by Shandi Finnessey of Missouri, who is Miss USA 2004. The new titleholder will compete MAY 30 in the
Miss Universe competition in Bangkok, Thailand.

Miss California, Brittany Hogan, 20, of Escondido, was first runner-up.
Miss Kentucky, Kristen Lynn Johnson, 23, of Slaughters, was second runner-up;
Miss Illinois, Jill Gulsteth of Geneva, was third runner-up. Miss Florida, Melissa Witek, 24, of Cocoa Beach, was fourth runner-up.

The 51 contestants were trimmed to 15, then 10 semifinalists and finally five finalists for Monday's evening gown and swimsuit competitions.

Nancy O'Dell and Billie Bush of "Access Hollywood" returned as Co-Hosts for the Comppetition.
