I thought maybe saome in here would get a smile from this little web page. We have been talking about religion quite a bit lately in the gay threads, so I thought I would throw in some comedy relief

cheers

Alot of conservative christians will claim that star wars is trying to push buddhist and hindu ideas...

analogies are effective... Jesus used both agriculture and jewish ritual to make his points...

If you look at the T-shirts they're selling, you'll notice that these people are idiots.  On one shirt they are saying "The force is a tool of Satan".  On the other they are saying, "Jesus is the force".

So basically this means Jesus is the tool of Satan. Shocked

Ugh.  I'm not even going to this website.  It's radical, fundamentalist groups like this that give Christianity a bad reputation.  I'm a firm believer in Christ and I thoroughly enjoyed watching all of the Star Wars movies.  My faith is strong enough to sustain me through a two-hour movie.  My bladder, however, is not.

So true Rupey!  My children watched Bewitched, Batman, The Addams Family,
just like we listened to The Showdow on radio in the early 50's.
We aren't damaged by make believe.
Our children aren't stupid, they do come with a brain
and know what is real and what is not in the real world!

The people who make something out of nothing
are the ones doing the Devil's Handwork!

.....and I do call a make believe movie nothing!

There will always be someone who takes things a bit too far.

We had some neighbor friends who would not allow their kids to see Harry Potter because it condone witchcraft. Actually they were told in church (an no I won't say which religion as it will just drag this out) to not allow their children to see this film or anything in that vein.

I had students who weren't allowed to read Harry Potter books for the same reason - even had one parent send me a letter quoting scripture to explain to me why it was evil - hmmm... when we read the book HIS daughter was the one who had her own personal copy??  I pointed this out to him - he didn't even know she had them - so many comments at this point.. not one that would be appropriate... Sad

Roll Eyes  is all I can say!
Parents are to teach their children about "make believe"!
As I do recall it being in every Children's Story.

Borad, I can only make a good guess as to which religion! Wink

My personal view as a parent is to let them know what is out there in the world, educate them and let them make an educated decission on their own.

We were all children at one point and most of us can agree that if our parents made something forbidden it became all that more alluring.

I wonder if these same people would have issues with their children reading CS Lewis' Narnia series. There was a witch in there as well and he is well known for his stand on Christianity.

The answer, Borad, is yes.  Many of those same people have problems with the Chronicles of Narnia because of the fantasy, witch, elves, etc.  The first time a fundamentalist homeschool mom told me she wouldn't let her kids read these books, I laughed!  My son is reading "The Magician's Nephew" right now.  What those uninformed, myopic, fundamental, legalistic people don't realize is that C.S. Lewis was a Christian when he wrote that series of books and there are excellent opportunities to teach about good vs. evil, God vs. Satan, faithfulness vs. betrayal, etc. through the storylines.
