Tom Cruise has criticized Hollywood pal Brooke Shields' "misguided" use of the anti-depressant Paxil, while declaring the actress' career as over.
In an interview with Billy Bush on the TV show Access Hollywood, to be screened on May 26, Cruise speaks of his disappointment to learn Shields used Paxil to fight post-natal depression following the birth of her daughter Rowan.

Shields is currently weaning herself off her medication so she and husband Chris Henchy can have another child.

Cruise, who claims to have helped people fight drug addictions through his controversial Scientology religion, says the Suddenly Susan actress should have used vitamins to help her feelings of despair.

Cruise says, "Here is a woman, and I care about Brooke Shields because I think she is an incredibly talented woman. You look at, where has her career gone?"

Despite the Minority Report actor's declaration her career is over, Shields is currently receiving rave reviews playing murderess Roxie Hart in the London theatre production of Chicago.

Cruise maintains, "These drugs are dangerous. I have actually helped people come off.

"When you talk about postpartum, you can take people today, women, and what you do is you use vitamins. There is a hormonal thing that is going on, scientifically, you can prove that. But when you talk about emotional, chemical imbalances in people, there is no science behind that.

"You can use vitamins to help a woman through those things."

As for us, we're all for 'em - we never could survive a night at Jet East with all those pretty people not-so-silently judging us.

Shame on Tom for belittling and condemning the use of Paxil. Paxil has carried me through some EXTREMELY rough times and has kept me under control.

I had a minister's wife tell me once that depression was from Satan and that I was allowing him to control my life. Yeah, that was REAL helpful!

Thank God (literally) for a sane, mature Christian therapist who suggested that I could benefit from Paxil. It's been three years since I've had to use it. Maybe next time I face an insurmountable bout of depression I should give Tom Cruise a call? I think not!

You know, when Tom has actually dealt with post-partum depression - then Tom can comment on how to deal with it... until then, I agree, he needs to stick to acting and let those with the medical degrees stick to medicine.

What has come over Tom lately Huh

? Firstly his bizzare antics on oprah, this slamming of Brooke sheilds and on sunday night here he was interviewed on 60 minutes. Now Tom Cruise has always had a very good relationship with Australia and the Aussie media basically due to his marriage to Nicole Kidman and he spent a great deal of time here. During his 60 minutes interview the reporter innocently asked about Nicole and his kids....as the world is aware they are still good friends and often holiday to gether with their children......so it didn't seem to be an out of place question....the look of Toms face was one of absolute hatred and then he told the reporter to "shut his trap and where the hell are his manners"......excuse me? Tom is not winning many friends from his latest behaviour.....there is something going on somewhere!

yep yesteach I've always thought the same thing.......well let's face it even a 16 year age difference still makes it possible for him to be old enough to be her father! But it's not just the age gap....Katie herself looks far younger than 26........katie is fact closer in age to his daughter Bella than she is to him!!!!!
