Russell crowe arrested

Russel crowe was arrested and charged with assault yesterday in New York.

Apparently he was trying to get a line out from his hotel room at 4 20am New York time to call his wife in sydney.

he wasn't having any luck and asked for the hotel to fix or replace thew phone......a hotel worker who went to his room claims that Crowe threw the phone at him hitting on his face.

Crowes publicist says that he threw at the wall and did not aim at the hotel worker.

Crowe was charged with assault and possesion of a weaponHuh??

He could face up to 8 years gaol.

Now we all know Russell has a temper and who knows what really went on in that hotel room but being charged with possesion of a weapon.....being a telephone........that is just stupid!!!

Doesn't that make us all criminals.....gosh I have 4 phones in place....arrest me!

On the news here it says he could get 4 years.
We all know he won't get more than a fine.

He may be an Aussie and you may think he's wonderful, but it's my
opinion this man is in severe need of anger management therapy!

Guess you can tell I don't care for his kind, and with good reason also!

I totally agree luci....just because he's an aussie doesn't mean I condone his behaviour...........he's had  a few too many public  brawls and it's time he takes note and does something about it.........afterall he has a young infant son and Russells behaviour is not something his son should grow up seeing!

I do think that the possesion of a weapon charge is ridiculous though and also parading him handcuffed to a car I also didn't think was necessary.

Goodness here we don't even handcuff murder suspects......if you're charged with assault here you get booked, sent home and wait for you day in court....no handcuffs required!

I agree with both of you.  The talk of 4 years is just an empty threat, the handcuffs were unnecessary unless he fought the police (which he didn't)  Russell needs to calm down!  He's a great actor, but so darn tempermental.

Was searching about - this is report is the closest to what I've heard on the news... I might can see an assault charge (even tho it wasn't his intention to hit him, he did throw it) but a weapons charge??  no...

Phone rage and six odd feet of grunt
By Catherine Keenan, Andrew Hornery and Valerie Lawson in London
June 8, 2005
The celebrity agent Harry M. Miller feels for Russell Crowe. "The sad truth," he says, "is I wouldn't mind a dollar for every time I've wanted to jam a phone down the throat of a hopeless telephone operator."

Wanted to, maybe, but Miller never has. Crowe, on the other hand, is a man more inclined to act on his urges.

Frustrated by his inability to call his wife and son from his New York hotel, the actor stormed downstairs and allegedly whacked the concierge with the faulty phone. While Crowe admits he lost his temper - and that he threw the phone at a wall - he denies there was any assault.

Crowe was charged with assault in the second degree, and criminal possession of a weapon - i.e. the phone - in the fourth degree. The maximum penalty for the assault is seven years in prison. Even if spared a custodial sentence, a New York Police Department spokeswoman said a felony charge could have wider repercussions for a non-American citizen - such as losing the right to work in the US.

Crowe's latest off-screen drama happened just after 4am on Monday, when Crowe was staying in a $US3000-a-night suite at Manhattan's Mercer Hotel. Unable to get through to his wife, singer Danielle Spencer, in Sydney, he dialled the front desk several times, before ripping the phone out of the wall and taking it down to them.

From there, reports diverge. New York's finest say Crowe, 41, hit Nestor Estrada, 28, with the phone, giving him a cut under his eye that did not require stitches.

The actor's Australian publicist, Wendy Day, read a prepared statement from Crowe that did not deny he threw the phone - he was getting "attitude" from the clerk, he says in his defence - but claims he aimed at the wall rather than Estrada's head.

"Words were exchanged and Crowe wound up throwing the phone against the wall. He regrets that he lost his temper, and at no time did he assault anyone or touch any hotel employee."

The New York Daily News reported that when police arrived, Crowe said: "F--- me, I'm sorry ... I really didn't mean to hit the guy. I just wanted to get the f---ing phones to work."

I think Russell Crowe and Tom Cruise would make great roommates--don't you?
