Tom Cruise, The Expert! He's an SPE!

A Self Proclaimed Expert, Tom  criticized NBC "Today" show host Matt Lauer on Friday when Lauer mentioned Cruise's earlier criticism of Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants. Cruise told Lauer he didn't know what he was talking about. "You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do," Cruise said.

The interview became more heated when Lauer, who said he knew people who had been helped by the attention-deficit disorder drug Ritalin, asked Cruise about the effects of the drug.

"Matt, Matt, you don't even - you're glib," Cruise responded. "You don't even know what Ritalin is. If you start talking about chemical imbalance, you have to evaluate and read the research papers on how they came up with these theories, Matt, OK. That's what I've done."

When asked if he could be with someone at this stage in his life who doesn't have an interest in the Church of Scientology - girlfriend Katie Holmes has said she's embracing the religion - Cruise told Lauer: "Scientology is something that you don't understand. It's like you could be a Christian and be a Scientologist."

"It is a religion. Because it's dealing with the spirit. You as a spiritual being. It gives you tools you can use to apply to your life."

Cruise has been busy promoting his new film, "War of the Worlds," directed by Steven Spielberg, which opens on June 29.

The actor, whose marriages to Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman ended in divorce, declined to say what Holmes has brought to his life that wasn't there in the past.

"I don't want to compare things," Cruise said. "It's that thing where you just - in life when it just happens. ... You meet someone. And it's - I can't even describe it."
(big Tom grin here, "like an ape eating briars," as Mr L would say!)

NOTE:
Come on folks, let's bash him again today, he deserves it.   Steven ir right to be concerned about his new movie!

Dr Cruise may have researched the history of psychiatry but has he actually "studied" itHuh?

Has Cruise spent many years at university/college obtaining his degree?

There is a difference bewteen reading about a subject and actually learning and studying it!!!

Several years ago I started reading about psychology.....I learnt all about how and when it originated, when the first school of psychology was opened, the basics of psychology etc etc  did I all of a sudden know everything about it.....absolutely not! Unless I studied for 4 years at uni and obtained a degree my knowledge of the subject was it's history....not it's practice!

As I've said before....Get over yourself Tom!

I think Tom's acting career may be ending soon if he doesn't shape up. What's his problem? It's like he's freaking out over someone asking him a simple question. And also, I think that it's completely rude and uncalled for to say that an interviewer doesn't know what he's talking about. These people spend time preparing their questions, the very least you could do is answer them! I think I need from a break from celebrity news; it's driving me mad.

Hmmm... Tom might need to do some reading on Scientology... everything I've read seems to contradict this statement... you can't be a Christian and a Scientologist.. at least not by my definition of the two...

Way too much about Tom in the news.  He's on a publicity junket for a movie...ask about it, not how to solve the world's problems.

he told Matt Laur that there was no such thing as a chemical imbalance.  I think he had all the neurologists in the world throwing stuff at their TV at that point.  I think depression is over diagnosed (meaning docs hand anybody down in the dumps a prozac) but come on, there some genuinely distressed people out there and for him to say their problem doesn't exist is a crying a shame.

Wonder how he explains the different levels of serotonin in depressed vs non-depressed people  Roll Eyes
