Road Trip to Relief

Did anyone see the CNN report about the 3 young men from Duke University that grew tired of hearing that no relief was coming for those trapped in New Orleans? These young men decided that by last Thursday they had enough with what was happening in New Orleans and decided that they would help out as best as they could.

They loaded up thier Hyundai Elantra with what they could and headed out on the road for a trip to New Orleans. To make a long story short they went to Baton Rouge and found a press tag and used it to go through a road block. Once through the roadblock they drove straight into New Orleans without any problems and drove right to the convention center where they handed out what they provisions they had brought, talked with as many people as they could and then headed back home.

The fact that they could drive right to the convention center flys right in the face with what the FEMA people have been telling everyone, that its impossible to get into New Orleans. The most damaging proof that the men got was the video tape of bus after bus (aprox 20+) driving down the highway heading away from New Orleans, while completly empty of people?

Its sad when the average citizen can do what Government agencies can not do.

Sad

I hadn't heard this story, but I did read about one boy that got tired of waiting for help to come and hotwired a bus and filled it up with his folks.

I saw on the news that vehicles (and tractor trailers with supplies) were being turned away unless they had clear objectives/affiliations/clearance.... with Red Cross, Salvation Army, etc...

It makes sense, they can't have people just flood in with stuff while they are trying to clear it out.  You could easily introduce more looters that way that come there with a trailer full of food that they intend to empty and then privately refill with things from the city.  It would not be hard at this point for anyone with a genuine donation to get that food and supplies to the red cross for distribution.
