GULP!...here we go again!

T.S. Rita is predicted to reach hurricane status.  Florida Keys are evacuating....again.  We don't seem to be catching any breaks from the weather.....it's still too hot in Texas, thus the water is heating back up, so the hurricane if it reaches us could be big.   Projected path right now has it hitting the Texas coast, but it's early days yet.  We could use a little rain.....emphasis on little  We have an additional population to be hurricane wary, with all the evacuees who've come here.

Anyone else feeling drained and overwhelmed from all the bad news and bad weather?

Rita is looking to be bad.  They say it could be a cat 4 or 5 when it hits Galveston.  People are already being evacuated.  Hopefully they will be smarter this time and listen to the warnings. Galveston is a tiny island.  I don't know that it could survive a Cat 5 like in 1900.  Sad

A story about the Hurrican of 1900.
Between 6000 and 1200 people were lost.
After the hurricane the seawall was built and
building were constructed stronger.
However, a cat 4 hurricane will be devastating and the seawall cannot hold back the water.

In 1900 the water was to the stairs of the Tremont Hotel which is downtown and 4 to 5 miles from the beach.

The Govenor has just issued a voluntary
evactuation of that area.

My cousin is/was to be married this weekend on the
beach at this resort, then board a cruise ship the next day! Lips Sealed

When I first learne dof their plans, I casually commented
the date is when Galveston will have their second worst hurricane in history!  Oh My!  I hope it misses that beautiful island!  At the very least those plans are being changed at this moment!  I know the Bride is frantic, as is her Mother!

They are probably upset the wedding plans got messed up, but if that's the worst thing that's happening then they also need to step back and see the silver lining in the clouds.  The warning came before she boarded the ship.  A lost wedding site is not the worst thing that could have happened here, but sometimes it's hard to put that into perspective.  I have to do that with myself sometimes, or my mom will do it for me, lol.

No, they aren't sweating it one bit!
Plans can be rearranged, people cannot!
The Cruise Line cancelled the Sunday Cruise already.

We're just praying this hurricane lands on a desolate
part of the beach somewhere west of Galveston!

We both love that area and would be as devasted if it
were destroyed as much as if it were right across the street!

Pray for a slow down to a Tropical Storm!

I know, how terrible!  Cry
Pocket, are you close enough in to NOT evacuate?

With it coming this direction, there may
be some tornadoes spanning out of it across the state!

If  WRETCHED Rita stays on track to Matagorda, we'll stay put.  With that scenario, we're supposed to get 40 mph winds with gusts.  (Yes, tornadoes are always a possibility) If it starts a turn to the north towards the upper Texas coast, we have an alternate plan to get out........somewhere north or northeast or northwest, depending on where we think is safer.  You know.........AWAY!  We have too many trees around us....those and high winds don't mix.     This storm has us making two sets of plans, and I get confused making just one plan.  My husband was out in 101 temperatures, securing yard furniture and the like.  We have a few more things to do tomorrow, and lists up the wazoo.....what to do, what to pack, what to take.

I have a cousin who's husband is stationed in Galveston and they have already left.  My in-laws live in Houston and I called tonight to make sure they were leaving.  They said they are pulling out in the morning to go to Alabama.  My mother-in-law said that was the closest they could get.  The hubby's ship was near New Orleans and they left this morning to get out of the way.  They are going to wait it out somewhere and then follow it in to Texas to help out.  So all mine are accounted for thank goodness.
