Missing Teen's Mom Returns to Aruba

ORANJESTAD, Aruba The mother of an Alabama teenager who vanished in Aruba more than five months ago has returned to the Dutch Caribbean island to press authorities to solve her daughter's disappearance.

Beth Holloway Twitty (search) left Aruba in early September after a court ordered the release of three local youths who were the last people seen with her daughter, Natalee Holloway.

The honors student was last seen early on May 30 leaving a bar with Dutch national Joran van der Sloot (search) and Surinamese brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe. They were arrested on June 9 but released after a court ruled there was not enough evidence to hold them.

Twitty, who arrived Tuesday, told reporters that she wanted to meet with prosecutors and police to discuss a taped interview in which Deepak Kalpoe (search) allegedly says all three had sex with Holloway, who would have turned 19 last month.

"I want to keep the communication channels open with the police and prosecutor," she said, adding that so far the prosecution has declined to meet with her.

She met with Aruban tourism officials, who have expressed concern that negative publicity surrounding the case could hurt the island's tourism-dependent economy. However, the government says tourism so far hasn't been affected.

Twitty declined to give details on the meeting when asked by reporters, saying only that she planned to leave the island on Thursday.

Myrna Jansen, managing director of the Aruba Tourism Authority, called the meeting informative. "Of course, we are not investigators, but we will do our utmost to solve this case."

Kalpoe's attorney and Aruban authorities did not immediately respond to phone calls seeking comment on the tape. Van der Sloot, in a television interview in September, said he had kissed Holloway but neither he nor the brothers had sex with her.

Holloway's body has never been found and authorities have announced no developments since the release of the Kalpoe brothers and van der Sloot, who has moved to the Netherlands to attend college.

Twitty said police have told her that authorities are analyzing an audiotape of an interview of Deepak Kalpoe by an investigator hired by the "Dr. Phil" show.

On the tape, Kalpoe says Holloway "dressed like a slut," and that he, his brother and van der Sloot had sex with the U.S. teen. Twitty said police told her that investigators are trying to make sure the tape has not been altered.

No I dont think she is still alive. It would be great if she was but its so unlikely. I just wish they could find her body so her family and friends could move on.

Every once in a great while someone comes come long after we've given them up for dead...Elizabeth Smart...little Shasta...and I'm a glass is half full kinda person....BUT...between these three boys, something really smells here, and I just don't believe she is still alive.

It was ridiculous for the three of the boys/men to be released
without something more solid about Natalie.
To not even have a piece of evidence stating it is her DNA is
more horrible for her parents than I think any of us can imagine.
Good or bad, I hope this Mother learns something she can accept soon.
For now, she hopes and prays................................

What if........................Natalie was sold?
What if........................she is alive?

Her parents deserve answers.

Is the USA/FBI not allowed to interrogate with a lot of pressure on them?
The kind where they would be glad to give the evidence they know?
........and the three were released! Talk about a botched investigation!

I know I would not even consider going to Aruba now, if for no other reason than the lack of respect the Aruban police have shown the Holloway/Twitty family. There is NO reason why their government could not have allowed the FBI to assist in the investigation. This "power play" by the Aruban government and their police is ridculous. Choke down your egos and allow others to help when needed.

Unfortunately, the Aruban people will suffer because I think many others feel as I do and will vacation elsewhere because of it.

Yes, and we've always wanted to travel there, as many
cruise ships have it on their cruise ports to tour.

IF, there is any chance of her being alive, maybe death would be better than
what we can only imagine a female sold into a sex slave ring might be facing
for years and years with no end in sight.

I know all of you, along with me can say with the utmost sincerity,
our hearts ache for Beth Twitty, her Mother. I think of her daily.

Five months after Alabama teen Natalee Holloway disappeared, her family remains steadfast in their search for clues surrounding her disappearance. Natalee's father, Dave Holloway, and her mother, Beth Holloway-Twitty, have both done their part to keep their daughter's memory alive and her name in the news headlines.

Both Dave and Beth have returned to Aruba numerous times, searching for clues and confronting the Aruban government about their investigation of Natalee's case. Just last week, Dave, accompanied by EquuSearch - a search and recovery team for missing persons - discovered a makeshift memorial for Natalee. A small wooden cross, surrounded by rocks and coral and draped in rosary beads, stood just yards from where Natalee was reportedly last seen alive. Carved in the corner of the cross were the initials "N.H."

The memorial seems interesting considering the fact that it was found in an area off the beaten path, where the general public would not likely have gone. Is it just a memorial from a saddened local citizen, or the work of someone with a guilty conscience? The answer is unclear at this point.

The non-profit, volunteer group EquuSearch has used highly sophisticated sonar equipment, helicopters and manpower to search both land and sea for clues about Natalee's disappearance. Natalee's family is hopeful that with the help of EquuSearch they may finally find some closure.

NOTE:
The volunteer group is from Houston, Texas, and has the
most sophisticated underwater equipment available.

It was told the lock was broken on one of the fish houses and a lobster trap taken.
A lobster trap is said to be about the size of a breakfast table.
The underwater search went on for three days in shallow water 3 miles out.

P.S. I failed to mention this was on America's Most Wanted TV Show last night.

I'll try and find the article but there are new witnesses apparently and Holloway-twitty wants the classmates interviewed or something to see if there is information missed....

I think we all get caught up with the family that we forget how hard it must be for the people that were on the trip. Natalee's friends, the chaperones, I am sure they are feeling guilty and will never forget what happened. I mean every time they look at pictures from Aruba they are going to remember Natalee and all the emotions will constantly resurface..

On the TV Show, AMW, last night, it showed Natalie's Dad in Aruba
on the beach. He had found a wooden cross with NH carved into it.
There was also a necklace of some kind hanging on it.
Now if all this doesn't tell them to start interrogations again, what will it take?

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Gov. Bob Riley called for a nationwide travel boycott of Aruba on Tuesday on behalf of a missing Alabama teenager's family, who accuse the island's government of not fully cooperating with the investigation into her disappearance.

Riley asked his fellow governors to join him in urging the boycott of Aruba, where 18-year-old Natalee Holloway was last seen on May 30.

"There are no other alternatives to get Aruban authorities to take this as seriously as they should," Riley said.

Holloway's mother, Beth Holloway-Twitty, joined Riley at the Alabama Capitol for the boycott announcement. She contends Aruban authorities have failed to adequately investigate the possible murder of her daughter, who was with a Dutch teenager and two Surinamese brothers on the night she disappeared.

The young men were held for a time but have been released.

Aruba Police Chief Gerald Dompig said later Tuesday the investigation into Holloway's disappearance is not complete, and that authorities want to interview other American teenagers who were on the high school graduation trip with Holloway.

"We want to talk once more with various students because their first statements, taken by the FBI, were very short," Dompig said. "There are a few crucial questions that they still have to answer."

He would not say what those questions are.

Riley was asked if parents should allow their children to go to Aruba on similar trips as long as Holloway's disappearance is unsolved.

"I would not allow my daughter to go to Aruba," he said.

Part of me does not agree with a boycott, because of the regular, hard working citizens of aruba that will lose their jobs if the tourism stops.
I think if letters were written to the government officials in Aruba about how the case was handled, would be as effective. And sending letters to our own officials to do something to prevent this from happening to another US citizen
