Just When You Think You've Heard It All:

Along comes a Wacko

NEWS:

Teen's New Name: KentuckyFriedCruelty.com

NEW YORK (AP) -- A 19-year-old PETA staffer has legally changed his name to KentuckyFriedCruelty.com.

Chris Garnett, youth outreach coordinator for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said he changed his name in support of the group's anti-KFC campaign.

"People don't believe me at first when I tell them my name, but it never fails to spark a discussion," Garnett, er, KentuckyFriedCruelty.com, said in a statement. "Many vow to boycott KFC after I explain the company's indifference to cruelty to animals."

Norfolk, Va.-based PETA's complaints against KFC stem from video footage shot last year recording alleged mistreatment of birds at a Pilgrim's Pride Corp. plant in Moorefield, W.Va. The plant is a KFC supplier.

Yum! Brands, the parent company of KFC, has disputed the claims of mistreatment. In June, a grand jury refused to indict former workers at the West Virginia chicken plant.

"Stacked" star Pamela Anderson, who has narrated a PETA video showing the alleged abuse, supports Garnett's name change.

"I'm sure Chris can't wait till KFC stops torturing chickens so he can change his name back," the actress said in a statement, adding that the chicken abuse "is awful and has to stop."

IMHO,
The world is like a big bowl of granola, filled with Fruits, Nuts and Flakes.

. . . . not sure whether this dummy falls into the NUT or FLAKE catagory.  Personally, I think he corners the market on both!

It takes all extremes to find the middle ground.  I could never be a Peta activist myself or live the way they do, but I can appreciate that they help bring some abuses to light that have stopped for animals and made some things a better place for them as a result.

It just seems incredibly odd to me that they are worried about the mistreatment of chickens, which are bred for us to EAT, yet you never hear of a PETA activist supporting Human Rights.   More often than not they are throwing blood at someone or something.

Lets help the people first, then we can worry about the animals

(to clarify, not saying animal abuse is in any way shape or form acceptable behavior)

Oh they are absolutely extremists and I would never want to or could live the way they do.  I do think that some element of them are necessary in our world, because it takes fringe extremes to help most of us find the middle ground of what's appropriate and acceptable in our world.

my daughter decided to be a PETA supporter a few years ago, and they'd send her all these little "tasks" she could do to help the cause.  One was a pdf file with "don't wear fur" cards... she was to print them, cut them apart, and go through the mall/stores putting them in the pockets of any clothing items with fur... LOL.

Oh well, to each their own I suppose... hope KentuckyFriedCruelty enjoys his new name..  Undecided

That's much more constructive than doing stuff like putting lipstick on the fur coats, which I've heard about.  I have read that most retailers big enough to carry fancy fur coats have insurance against damage like that and simply order new coats.  It strikes me that all the person with the lipstick is doing, is making sure MORE animals will be killed to replace what they destroyed.

I think that just a lot of the extreme things just appear on the news.  I don't believe all PETA supporters go to that extreme.

There's lots of campaigns of celebrities against wearing fur which I don't think is extreme.

To bring reality TV into this, I believe I've recently seen Jenna Morasca wearing a T--shirt with cutesy slogans against wearing fur.

haha Rhune.. On trading spouses or something like that there was a woman who was a PETA activist and went to a hunter family. She said that she deliberately didn't take meat out of the freezer so that father would have eat non-meat for dinner.. His solution was to go hunt out an animal, then she was freaking out bc the rabbit was with his family and now she is cooking it... THe ironic thing about it was that had she taken the meat out of the freezer then the rabbit would not have been killed..

Though that said I don't eat Pig (for religious reasons) and I have never really liked red meat in general. I don't like fish so all I eat is chicken and turkey, limited at best
