Paul McCartney, Heather Mills Split

Sir Paul McCartney and his wife of four years, former model and anti-landmine advocate Heather Mills, are separating.  
 
"Having tried exceptionally hard to make our relationship work given the daily pressures surrounding us, it is with sadness that we have decided to go our separate ways," the couple said in a joint statement.  
 
"Our parting is amicable and both of us still care about each other very much but have found it increasingly difficult to maintain a normal relationship with constant intrusion into our private lives, and we have actively tried to protect the privacy of our child," the statement continued.  
 
"Separation for any couple is difficult enough, but to have to go through this so publicly, especially with a small daughter, is immensely stressful. We hope, for the sake of our baby daughter, that we will be given some space and time to get through this difficult period."  
 
The couple married in June 2002 in a $3.2 million wedding in Ireland. Their daughter, Beatrice Milly, was born in October 2003.  
 
NBC News reported Wednesday morning that Mills, who has said McCartney turned down her offer to sign a prenuptial agreement, could claim as much as a quarter of McCartney's estimated $1.5 billion fortune.  
 
In a posting on his Web site on Wednesday McCartney defended Mills against critics who've said she had ulterior motives for marrying the singer. "It's been suggested that she married me for the money and there is not an once of truth to this," he wrote. "She is a very generous person who spends most of her time trying to help others in greater need than herself."  
 
McCartney, 63, and Mills, 37, met through her charity work, the Heather Mills Health Trust, which provides prosthetic limbs to the needy and campaigns against landmines.  
 
Mills – who now carries the title of Heather, Lady McCartney – formed the initiative after losing the lower part of her leg in a 1993 motorcycle accident.  
 
The U.K. press has reported recently that McCartney and Mills have been living apart in the past few weeks. Mills's rep at first denied marital woes, telling PEOPLE, "She's getting a new leg fitted, and she's (in Hove), near where she's having it done. Paul's being very supportive."  
 
McCartney has three children from his 29-year marriage to the former Linda Eastman, who died of breast cancer in 1998. They are Mary, 36, a photographer; Stella, 34, a fashion designer; and James, 28, a musician. McCartney also has a stepdaughter, Heather, 43, from Eastman's first marriage.

One time I had this beautiful orange cat, that was so sweet and we just loved him.  He used to lay next to the baby and just set his head on the baby's tummy and purr...and we were heartbroke when he got hit by a car and died.  We basically rushed out 2 weeks later and got another orange kitten and in some ways tried to get back what we had with the first one, only the thing is different cats have different personalities.  This one was rowdy and got excited when the baby wiggled around, and scratched him across the face.  Kitty was gone the following day - we gave him to a friend that was interested, and they are a good match for each other.
 
Paul is someone who got really lucky with his first wife.  For someone in that high of a profile publicly, and that desired by women for his looks, status and money.  He found his true love, a woman who genuinely *loved* him, no matter what.  Linda was clearly his soulmate, and she was a lovely person.  It's such a tragedy she died.  
 
It seems to me that in his lonliness he rushed into a relationship with another woman who was similar to his wife (an activist like himself), and similarly looking to his first wife (both pretty blondes), and tried to find what he lost in someone who was similar to his first wife, but wasn't his first wife.  
 
I don't recall ever reading about a fight between Paul and Linda - I'm sure they had disagreements at times, all couples do.  It's healthy to disagree at times.  However, the ongoing loud and often public fights between Paul and Heather have been pretty well documented.  This is not to say that she didn't love him or that she was after his money or status, because I don't necessarily think that's the case.  
 
I just think they were very different people and maybe Paul refused to see that for a long time.  I think he genuinely believed, for awhile, that he could make this work and get back to where he'd been.  It's a bit unfair to be held up to the image of someone else's perfection (at least in his eyes), especially when you're such a different person, and I suspect she reacted badly/rebelliously in response.  The makings for disaster all around.
