Is a girl... Shiloh... born today...

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The baby has arrived - and no, they didn't name her Brangelina.

Thousands of miles from Hollywood but still within easy reach of celebrity hype, Angelina Jolie gave birth to Brad Pitt's daughter Saturday in Africa, Pitt's publicist announced.

"The night of May 27, 2006 in Namibia, Africa, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt welcomed their daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. No further information is being given," publicist Cindy Guagenti said in a statement.

No photographs were being released, she added.

The baby's arrival had been the subject of intense press speculation in recent months, prompting the superstar couple to decamp to Africa for privacy. It escalated Tuesday when an e-mail Pitt sent to the Cannes Film Festival said he was unable to attend because of the baby's "imminent arrival."

The birth came a little more than a month after another blockbuster delivery: a girl born to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

Jolie and Pitt had powerful help protecting their privacy from the government of Namibia, which refused to grant entry to reporters seeking to cover the birth without the actors' written permission. The government arrested photographers, confiscated film, ringed the couple's hotel with heavy security and set up large green barriers on the beach to shield their family.

Jolie and Pitt were linked romantically shortly after appearing together in the 2005 movie "Mr. and Mrs. Smith."

Jolie, 30, is a frequent visitor to Africa and serves as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.

Jolie has two adopted children: toddler Zahara, from Ethiopia, and 4-year-old Maddox, from Cambodia.

Both had their surnames legally changed to Jolie-Pitt after Pitt announced his intentions to co-adopt the children.

Pitt and actress Jennifer Aniston divorced last fall.

Jolie, who won an Oscar for her supporting role in 1999's "Girl, Interrupted," is divorced from Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller.

Hmm...we're always colored by people we've met.  I knew a Shiloh growing up, she was stoned most of the time and had a baby by the 8th grade and was pregnant with another by the 9th...it's not a name I'd have ever picked, lol!

I kinda feel bad for children of celebrities. Their parents are always involved in one relationship after another.

Wow, Suri, Shiloh... and I heard Gwen gave birth too!

You just know their kids will be the focus of media attention 20 years from now. "The celebrity baby explosion of 2006 gave rise to the 3 most popular Hollywood young stars today. Suri Cruise, Shiloh Pitt, and Kingston Rossdale..."

And Britney is pregnant too. I really think being pregnant is the in thing right now in Hollywood. LOL

I think that's a pretty name - it's unusual but not so quirky that it elicits blank stares or looks of absolute disgust, lol. Congratulations to them!

I have the same thoughts too, JP!

It's an IN thing to be pregnant this year.

JP--- Ginger Spice named her daughter Bluebell Madonna.

I think it's great that they are donating the money from the baby pictures to charity

It's very smart as well, and safer for their children.  They took the wind right out of the sails of the stalker paparazzi who had a crazy bidding war on how much would be paid for the first photo.  It becomes like a hunt for these people.  It reminds me of the guy who got hypothermia for hiding INSIDE a piano in the church/castle Madonna got married in.  He had gotten there days early and hid out, so that he could secretly tape/photo their wedding.  It's no wonder Brad and Angelina bought out an entire country to ensure they wouldn't be stalked and harassed in her final month of pregnancy.

I personally like Jude Law's approach to the photogs.  Recently they were sneaking pictures of him playing wiht his kids at a park and he threatens to file pedafilia/kiddie porn charges against them for sneaking pictures of his kids.  LOL!  I say do what you must (within the law) to protect your kids!

If a random stranger was sneaking pictures of your kids, how would you react?  Why is it different for the paparazzi?  It still just infuriates me that in the name of "free press" they are allowed to stalk and harass people in a manner that would be jail time for anyone else to have done so.  They recently posted some film clip & photos on the net of Janet Jackson sun bathing in her backyard.  It's obvious the clip was shot by peeping the camera through the slats in her fence.  How is this any different than peeping toms?  Why wasn't this person arrested?  Simply because they are press.  I think this is just very very wrong.

Adults in "the biz" of celebrity are fair game.  Their kids should be off limits.  They didn't sign on for that.  I would be suspicious of anyone, not friend or family, taking any pictures of my kids.
