Every spring & fall I complain about our local weather man (woman), who constantly is interrupting prime time shows for the weather, often for bad weather in areas OUTSIDE the station's viewing range and not anywhere near our city. She drives me up a wall...

So I had a big laugh when I saw that she was recently awarded a web award for most over the top weather coverage. Naturally I had to share it with y'all. :devilish:

BLUE-JEANED KATIE "TORNADO" HORNER DELIVERS STERLING PERFORMANCE

   In an unbelievable display of speaking endlessly without anything worthwhile to say, Katie Horner, chief weather woman at KCTV5, filled more than an entire hour Sunday night and even managed to pre-empt highly rated "60 Minutes" and part of "Big Brother."

   Dressed to kill in blue jeans, a KCTV5 t-shirt and a Kansas City Chiefs' ball cap, Horner rambled endlessly about end-of-the-world rainstorms and a tornados that never materialized. In fact, most of the storms were far out of the greater Kansas City area, but that didn't stop her from a huge amount of truly concerned reporting.

   Highlights included: A creek where two young scouts were "rescued" by local police. An insightful Horner asked her on-site reporter, "Were they Boy Scouts or Eagle Scouts?" Her reporter was virtually speechless.

   Then she commanded her camera people to scour Brush Creek near the Country Club Plaza. A horrified Katie demanded that they focus on something in the water. "Is that a person in the water?" she asked with great concern. "Oh, I guess that is just a beach ball.... But let me warn folks that any water more than a foot to two feet high can be dangerous...."

   In all, Katie Horner's "weathergasm" report was one of the most over-the-top weather forecast in the history of Kansas City. Viewers can hardly wait until she experiences her annual "snowgasms."
