Many will remember Ann Richards for her speech at the Democratic Convention. She was also governor of Texas... was just announced on the news that she passed away about an hour ago from a "long bout with esophageal cancer" (was the way the news stated it.)

She was a very politically influential lady in Texas... and in the Democratic party.

I lived in Texas while she was the governor, I admired her much for her win and demeanor while she was in office.

It wasn't a long meeting, luci. She was parade marshall or Mrs. East Texas or some such at our Dogwood Festival. I was looking through the goodies at our craft fair, amazed at seeing flow blue at a low price, and I turned around and there she was. She had a seven foot tall (at least his head was a long way up there) security person with her, and I was almost as much in awe of him as I was of her. I just told her I was so proud to meet her and shake her hand, and she said she was glad to be there and was enjoying the festival...I was too rattled to remember what all. I looked back up at that steely eyed, handsome, young security guy and slunk off, since she was meeting and greeting. She was just as well groomed as she was any time she was in the news... the beautiful white hair and smile, and she had a twinkle in her eyes.
