Lou Diamond Phillips accused of battery Fri Sep 22, 3:15 PM ET LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Lou Diamond Phillips, best known for his role as rocker Ritchie Valens in the movie "La Bamba," has been charged with domestic battery in a fight with his girlfriend, officials said on Friday. Phillips faces up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine if convicted of the misdemeanor count, which was filed on Thursday in Los Angeles. His arraignment is set for October 18. In an August dispute, Phillips is alleged to have "pushed and dragged (his girlfriend) across the house, resulting in scrapes to both knees," City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo said in a statement. The woman locked herself in a bathroom and called 911 for help. Diamond's spokesman declined to comment and said the actor's lawyers were still reviewing the charge. The girlfriend's name was not disclosed in a court filing or by the Los Angeles City Attorney's office. Phillips, 44, first gained stardom in 1987's "La Bamba," portraying singer Ritchie Valens' rise to stardom in the early days of rock 'n' roll before dying in a plane crash. The actor has appeared in numerous films and television shows since then, most recently including guest starring roles in episodes of TV hits like "Numb3rs" and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."
