Dad pleads guilty in beating death of suspected molester
POSTED: 2:41 p.m. EDT, October 4, 2006

WILMINGTON, Delaware (AP) -- A man pleaded guilty Wednesday to criminally negligent homicide for beating to death a 77-year-old man he believed had molested his young daughter.

Robert Fontanez Jr., 27, had faced the more serious charge of second-degree murder in the April death of Bismark Vasquez before agreeing to the plea. He faces up to five years in prison at sentencing, expected early next year.

According to police, Fontanez became enraged when his 5-year-old daughter told him that Vasquez had touched her inappropriately.

He went to Vasquez's home and punched him so hard that the older man went through the back door, police said. Investigators said Fontanez continued to beat Vasquez as he lay bleeding on the concrete outside. Vasquez died in a hospital three days later.

Police detective Scott Chaffin said there was no physical evidence to support the molestation allegation, though he said the child's comments to police were consistent with what she had told her mother.

In a similar case in Fairfield, Connecticut, a man was charged with stabbing to death a 58-year-old neighbor in August whom he had suspected of molesting his 2-year-old daughter.

Jonathon Edington, 29, is free on $1 million bond and due back in court next week. Police have said they do not know if the abuse claim against the neighbor was true.

The more they let people back out to molest again, the more we're going to see stuff like this.  People don't trust the courts and judges to do what's right when it comes to child molesters and pedafiles.

If the man did indeed molest his little girl, then it's hard for me to fault him for what he did.

A 27 year old man beats a 77 year old man to death with his fists . . . . . based on the statement of a 5 year old child . . . . without any real proof of any crime . . . . other than this old man "TOUCHED" the child inappropriately (in the child's view) . . . . a touch? . . . not a rape, not a penatration, not even evidence of extensive fondling, nothing about any clothes being removed?. . .  we're talking a TOUCH . . . ??

Jeez, I thought this was a civilized society, based on rules and law, guess I must be wrong.

I've met this guy . . . he's the guy who cuts you off in traffic and then gives YOU the finger, he's the one who wants to fight at the drop of a hat for any perceived offense.  He's the guy who causes a scene at a restaurant or wherever and then hollars out "what the hell you looking at?" when you turn to see what the ruckus is. . . . the list goes on.  He's just one of the many "hotheads" walking around in our world who think that rules/laws/standards are required for other people and "optional" for him.

A rational, law-abiding, responsible Father would have called the proper authorities.

He deprived a 77 year old man of his Constitutional Rights, he took the law into his own hands and in doing so, took a life.  Now through his irresponsibile hot-headed actions, he will also deprive his daughter of a Father.
AND his family (which includes his daughter) will most likely be sued in Civil Court and will in all probability lose everything they have for being responsibile for the death of that man.  (Didn't think that far down the road, did ya' Bud?  Well, that's understandable, most Bulls-in-the-China Shop don't.)

Not much about this jerk that I admire.  He belongs in Jail.

I probably should have phrased it better, if as Rhune says, the man actually did molest his daughter, I do admire him for being so protective of his daughter... Again, not say I condone the murder, but I admire the protective attitude of the father

Here's another case of a RUSH TO JUDGEMENT.

Police: Girl Wasn't Molested by Neighbor
By JOHN CHRISTOFFERSEN
Associated Press Writer

October 19, 2006,

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Police have concluded that a 2-year-old girl was not molested by a neighbor whom the girl's father is accused of stabbing to death in rage, a police official told The Associated Press Thursday.

Jonathon Edington, a 29-year-old attorney from Fairfield, is charged with killing Barry James on Aug. 28 after his wife told him their daughter had indicated James touched her inappropriately "in the starry night," police said.

Edington pleaded not guilty last week.

"We're confident this 2-year-old was not molested," said Capt. Gary MacNamara. "We are confident in our investigation that Mr. Edington did in fact kill Mr. James. We are as confident in our investigation that Mr. James did not molest the Edingtons' daughter."

MacNamara confirmed that investigators interviewed the girl but declined to release further details.

MacNamara also would not comment on whether the girl's mother would be charged.

"The family of Barry James is adamant that Barry James was not a child molester, would never have harmed that child," Richard Meehan, the family's attorney, said Tuesday. "We fully anticipated and expected there would be nothing to corroborate this. I believe the complaint is untrue."

According to a police report describing the mother's account, the girl told her mother about the alleged molestation while the family was visiting relatives in Rhode Island.

The girl "explained that she did not want to go home because of Barry," police said in the report. When her mother asked her to explain, the girl said "that Barry puts it on her belly and her nose," the report said. When her mother asked her when James does this, she replied, "He comes to me in the starry nights."

Police say that after Edington's wife told him what their daughter said, Edington climbed through James' bedroom window and repeatedly stabbed him.
